    My 24 yr old son with a disability (testing for autism) lives with me. I have been his main...

    support since birth. He did make 2100 dollars last year. Can I use him as a deduction? I do have documentation that he is disabled altho I do not have power of attorney.

    My understanding is that if he is disabled he is your dependent, you can use him as a deduction.  Even if he were not disabled, you could deduct the medical expenses you pay for him. However, medical expenses must be very high to help much with fed taxes.  . . and each state has their own rules about deductions.I don't know what impact his income would make.  Doesn't seem like enough to count, but I don't know that answer.  You can call the IRS and ask.

    Is he receiving ssi/dis from your social security? The best people to ask would be the IRS customer service department. 

    1-800-829-1040 listen very carefully to the prompts.  You want the option that you want to speak to someone about 'your personal income tax account'.  You'll get other options after that, but just stay on the same road of 'Your Personal Income Tax account'   

    Do Not click on tax information, that will take you to place to order forms and they will repeat the same thing to you.  You, make also want to contact a tax attorney and a social security attorney also.  But, I would start with the IRS, go online to see if there is an office near you that you could go to.  But, of the field offices are closed after tax time.

    I would suggest preparing him and having him enrolled for college education, it will tremendously increase his earning potential.
