I have arrived into my middle age without a path to pension worthy enough to make it a financial happy time when I decide to retire. Is blogging a real source of income or just the dream of earning a royalty based income? What advice would successful bloggers give if I were to choose this as a life choice?
Choose it as a hobby first.
As with being a novelist, an illustrator, a freelance graphic designer, or pretty much anything--some can do it for a living (eventually) and others never will.
I have several blogs but would not call myself successful. Especially financially. It is my belief that in order to be successful at something like blogging then you would have be the best at your subject or bring something unique to the table. Those are just my thoughts though.
I haven't made any money on my blog, but it may have something to do with the fact that I don't put much effort into it these days.

I'm...
