if I obtain a 1000 dollar loan do i have to pay it in one payment
No, not unless you borrowed the loan from a "shark". You will pay back the loan in a series of scheduled payments until the principle (the amount you borrowed) is covered along with a certain percentage of interest.
There is no way to answer this question without more information. When you get a loan and sign a contract, all of these questions should be answered in any paperwork you sign. If you are not certain about the conditions of a loan, ask before signing anything!!
