buy them toys that don't need batteries, they'll still play with them.
Buy rechargeable batteries. They cost a bit more upfront but they are definitely worth it. My daughter has an MP3 player and we were going through batteries like crazy. I went out and spent 15 dollars on a 4 pack of batteries and a charger at Walmart. Now I don't have to hear, "Mom I need batteries" or being mad when I go to use the remote and the batteries are gone.
