How much do freelance translators normally make? Also how much should they charge on average?
I have a friend who is a Freelance translator and he charges .05 per word plus a $2.50 fee just for using him. So as you can see it is a very lucrative business. He works in the medical field so that could be why it is a higher number.
I am not too sure about what an average price would be, it all depends on what field you are in.
It depends on where you and your clients live. Different countries have different rule of thumb. In Europe where living expenses are high, you can charge up to $2+ per source word, it depends on how rare the language combination. In Asia it is lower.
In many cases, I always offer (and accept) various rate based on difficulty of the materials, etc. etc.
It varies a lot. Here is one estimate of earnings per month:
* USD 0,05 per word
* average 2000 words per day
* 20 working days per month
That would mean USD 2000 per month.
