Where can you find freelance writing work beside oDesk? I am living in Malaysia
As the topic...
I also use Guru and Elance and have had good success there...I don't know if Guru has any country restrictions or not, but unless Elance has changed drastically recently it allows accounts from all countries. I know I've seen and talked to providers from Malaysia on Elance before, so they're there . They do have a free subscription that will allow a little bit of bidding, their paid subscriptions start at $10, but they have a minimum job amount of $50 so if you can manage one job a month that's paid back. Guru charges per...three months, I think it is...so it's a bigger chunk out at once, and they really don't have anything on their free subscriptions. Hope this helps!
Hi, you can also check with Elance and Craiglist. I have friends who are now writing for Craiglist and they're happy. I also tried to browse some of their job listing and they're pretty much similar to oDesk which is good. You can just Google Craiglist and you will see their job openings there. Good luck. I hope you find your desired freelance writing work.
Oh, please do not participate in these writing mills! You devalue the profession of writing and the hard work of freelance writers everywhere when you write for free (well, practically for free). Then again, those who want to pay peanuts are not interested in quality content. They'll accept any bozo who's willing to throw a few words around those all-important keywords. If you take yourself seriously as a writer, market yourself as a serious writer. Create a Web site and write a blog. Check out AdWords or any of the other online targeted advertising options available to direct potential clients to your site. If you don't know what to charge, check out the Freelancers Union Web site. I believe they also post respectable writing jobs there.
You can check at Fiverr and relate sites. I wrote a hubs about how to make money at Fiverr. It is good site, you may find other site with $10 or $15 for article. Others place are Warrior Forum and Digitalpoint Forum. They had hire corner, you can find targeted people which pay you with higher rate.
You should try http://www.freelancer.com/. It is good site for everyone who have wish to do work as freelancer.
You might want to try http://forums.digitalpoint.com/ you can pick up some clients who need lots of writing done..
In addition to the Fiverr.com, elance.com and getafreelancer.com answers, I found my clients through the papers. I enjoyed a 4 year relationship with one client based in Johor Bahru while I was either in KL, or somewhere in Sarawak. By now, you could probably find such offers on jobsdb.com, & jobstreet.com.
Another way is to directly contact the client you are aiming. Send samples of your work.
By the way, what form of freelance writing work are you looking for? Creative, copy or technical?

Just wondering. Has anyone left their day job and concentrated instead on freelance writing? I'd be very much interested to learn how it went. Thanks!

Another hubber, DrMark1961 asked if Hubbing could be a full time job, which got my attention. I have always wanted to be a full time writer, and while I know that Hubpages is not going to give me a hefty pay out what with the google adsense and all that other malarkey taking chunks out (as other...
