Who will invest in the New GM when it finally listed on the stock exchanges?
The prospects for the new GM are surprisingly good. Their bankruptcy allowed them to discharge tens of billions of debt. A competitive advantage. Neither Ford nor Chrysler got such a get-out-of-debt pass.
When GM sold off Saab and Hummer and shut down Pontiac and Saturn - they got a second chance to focus their operations. The new GM should be a more nimble company that has already made a profit in Q1 of 2010.
I don't "Trade" stocks per say but if I decided to invest in GM it would be for a potential short term gain or "Trade" verses a longer term buy & hold investment.
The Bankruptcy did allow the company to discharge a considerable amount of debt from it's books however GM still remains in a "Questionable" financial situation going forward. What if the economy takes another dip and consumer spending is dampened again? How will the auto makers weather the storm? Plenty of other stock issues on both the NYSE & NASDAQ to check out before looking at GM.
Just an Opinion.

Does anyone else think this is getting out of hand? I read yesterday that GM will close 5 more plants and lay off 20,000 more U.S. workers but they need $14 billion to do it. How many jobs could we lose for $28 billion? How many billion do we have to fork over to get them to eliminate ALL the jobs?...

Taxpayers pay for $49,000 of the $89,000 dollars it cost to build a Chevy Volt. Sound like a good deal to you? That President Obama really wasn't joking when he said energy costs will have to sky-rocket was he? What a joke. See what happens when we rely on government?

I know the stock market is bad, but I'd like to start investing as I know there are a lot of great bargains out there. So if anyone can recommend any published books that they have read themselves, I would appreciate it.
