Do you think the amount of tax you are paying your government is reasonable?
22% of my husband's paychecks goes to the government. I think when we are talking almost 1/4 of our income it's too much! We get about $100 of that back at tax time.
I agree that we pay too much in taxes. But, I wonder what the response to the question would be if it was phrased as 'Do we get enough from our government?' I suspect a lot of people would want more from the government. You can't have more and pay less taxes!
Our family income looks good on paper. When you subtract our taxes: sales, property, state, federal, Social Security, and the taxes attached to utilities, we live on about half of what we make. It almost takes us down to the poverty level. The foundation on our house needs about $500 worth of work. The permits for that work are $2200. When I needed to replace my heater when my son was a week old I had to get a permit just to replace a heater. This is a tax.

Much is heard of a demand that corporations and the wealthy pay their "fair share" of taxes, but I have heard little of what that share should be.With only a single restriction; that the discussion is about legal tax actions, what should that "fair share" be?One could say that...

Should the government eliminate the income tax?Either it's patriotic to pay a percentage of your earnings, or it's a punishment for working.

The Congressional Budget Office's latest numbers show that the wealthiest 10 percent of Americans pay about 70 percent of all taxes, while the poorest 50 percent pay about 3 percent. In fact, some people pay nothing at all when tax credits and deductions are factored in.Should the wealthiest...

The Constitution says that no person shall be deprived of life, liberty, or property, without due process, meaning a trial and jury. At what point, after having gained wealth, does the Constitution no longer apply, and they're free to be looted, their wealth taken?
