Christmas money, Does anyone plan on investing their gift money on Stocks/Bonds/Cds/Metals?
Every Christmas people get gifts, candys, and for the most part money and gift cards. Does anyone plan on investing the money they get into bank cds/stocks/bonds/gold/silver/copper? If you do what investment will you make?
I always get candy for Xmas. Then the candies are invested into my mouth. After that the deposit goes down my throat and, as for interest rate, I get some extra calories. lol
I'm not sure that money is the primary gift people receive. At least not in my case. I'd rather that be the case for me though. My wife has bought things for her family with whom we're spending Christmas and vice versa. Personally I'd rather get money. I'm not a huge fan of "stuff." There aren't many things that I want. Money gives you options. But oh well. I don't want to be greedy.
Any money that I do get will just be pooled with the rest of my stash for future use.

I know the stock market is bad, but I'd like to start investing as I know there are a lot of great bargains out there. So if anyone can recommend any published books that they have read themselves, I would appreciate it.

I'm looking for some advice from anyone who has done investing or personal finance planning before. If you had a 5-figure sum of money and wanted to grow that amount into more what would be the best way to utilize it?...
