If you are looking to make loads of quick money then hubpages is not for you. You can make money here, but most people are here because they love to write.
I started writing here to learn how to write well online, and now i have several websites i contribute to. I have a few hubs that get a little traffic direct from Google but haven't made enough to be paid out since i have been here.
My advice is if you are looking solely to make a quick buck, you will be disappointed
Two main ways: Stop saying the same things about the same subjects others are writing about or write about subjects that not many people are writing about but people are looking for.
