Pet Food Costs
If you have multiple pets, you quickly develop expenses that can be difficult to manage. Hopefully, you have taken care to balance your compassion with reason, and you have not overloaded yourself with more animals than you can care for. If you're in that sort of situation, please drop them off at a no-kill shelter and allow someone else to care for them. If you do not have one of these in your city, realize that even a shelter that eventually uses euthanasia is preferable to allowing them to suffer. Do not drop your animals on the side of the road or allow them to starve in your home. Our pets are obviously not equal to us as humans, but they do depend on us for their survival. You have chosen the responsibility to care for the creature, so if you can't or don't want to, you are still ethically responsible to transfer ownership to someone else. I know it shouldn't be necessary to say these things, but I've seen some horrible issues of neglect in the state I currently reside.
Pet Food Pantries
If you're like me, and you're a regular pet owner, you might have one or two cats or dogs. There may be an additional animal every once in awhile, because you couldn't resist rescuing it from a perilous situation. Generally, though, you have a few at most. Depending on the needs of your animals, the cost for their maintainenance can quickly become expensive. If you have found yourself in a situation where you're having difficulty putting food on your own table, you might have considered visiting a food closet. Well, those are available for your pets as well.

I can't imagine why anyone in poverty wouldn't take advantage of these charities, though. Please don't kill or neglect your pets. Check out one of these places.
