Three Seated Monkeys:Drugs, Poppy Fields and Corrupt Aid Dollars

What is This War on Drugs?

The annual justifcation for aid.

On one day of each year the powers to be in Kabul invite Foreign Ministers from every country that provides commercial, financial and/or military aid to Afghanistan, to witness the annual opium and drug burning session. This burn off is supposed to provide evidence of Afghanistan’s total commitment to stamping out the local production and trafficking of some of the purest death on earth. The tons of ‘allegedly confiscated’ drugs and what could best be described as a very poor grade of flour are piled up and set fire to in a huge ceremony, attended by known drug lords, foreign and local dignitaries and selected press. As it is incinerated the dignitaries nod their acceptance and amidst the backslapping, new aid deals and further drug shipments are openly set in place for the next twelve month period. The ‘burn off’ represents no more than 2% of the total ‘illegal’ opium, hash and heroin Afghan stocks and subsequent exports to the lucrative Western and Asian markets.

The whole process is supported in some respect by military forces from the entire spectrum on coalition forces. The same young men and women who stand to lose their lives in a country governed by corrupt and two faced politicians and drug lords. On the streets of Western and Asian cities, addicts are created to ensure that those who control the 98% of Afghan Class A Drugs that avoided the annual burn off, get the maximum returns on the deceptive game played and justified by spin. I don't believe in the spin and I don't believe there will ever be an end to the misery of hard drugs, until the politicians start telling the truth. I guess that means there will NEVER Be a Real Solution to the scourge and corruption!

Tell it Straight - The Truth!

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil

We found him dead, slumped over on the floor

As most parents pray that drugs will just go away

Our troops are used to hold open smuggling doors

See no evil, hear no evil, speak no evil

In Kabul, they honor corrupt power brokers so

Who annually burn a token of the total opium grown

And justify the billions, in dollars paid to stop the flow

Speak no evil, hear no evil, see no evil

Grease their palms and they will always look away

Back home cutting smack with bleach or laxatives

From Kabul there are drug shipments every day

Hear no evil, speak no evil, see no evil

What they don’t see, will harm them in the end

Illusion is a powerful spin when it comes to terrorism

And no politician wants to have or know a junkie friend

Speak no evil, see no evil, hear no evil

Your war on drugs, what does it really mean?

When money corrupts our cultural differences

And things like apathy aren’t always what they seem

See no evil, speak no evil, hear no evil

They use the drug trade to justify new social laws

And claim that the body of the unseen, guilty one

Was dumped at sea, beyond illusion’s shores

Hear no evil, see no evil, speak no evil

Three monkeys sit and plot a suicide bomber’s raid

As sons and daughters die in distant poppy fields

Or overdose at home, among false promises made

Hear no truth, see no truth, speak no truth

Evil monkeys, devoid of reality and of human sense

Forced your drugs, corrupt wars and spin upon us all

Give back the value of our kids' innocence

Tell us the damn truth beyond the armored call

Burning drugs - Burning words

Our children die - Falling down

Steal our innocence - Steal our lives

See no evil monkeys - Burning words

Burning towers - Falling down

Poppy Fields - Supply the world

Send our troops - Send more aide

Our children die - Burning Lies

Burning words - Spin your spin

Burning towers - Falling down

Wasted lives - Again.....

Do you consider the dollars in 'aid' paid to Afghanistan to stop Opium exports to be of real value?

Hi Gary, yep that's true, a truth too 'transparent' to be considered wrong - a bit like a subtle insult to the intelligence of rational, conscious minds. Cheers for reading and commenting on this piece... take care

Yes, perhaps you are completely right on that issue. Although the process is one of multiple tiers of power, corruption and influence that does actually go beyond the politicians and their vested interests. Pulling the troops out will also create a greater exposure across all 'markets' and 'market players' as the parties will need to rely more on each other... it will be interesting I am sure. Thanks for you reading and commenting on this piece... take care.

Politicians are never going to do anything. The only way for us to stop the drug traffic is to convince people not to buy them anymore. Great hub overall, voted up.

Hi mathira, thank you very much for taking the time to read and comment on this hub. I think that there is also a huge dependence on the fact that the majority of people tend to have a short memory when it comes these events. We have become completely led around by our noses by the media moguls haven't we? New news vs old news where media companies don't consider 2 week old events as being news worthy anymore.

Consequently, events that factually are negatively life changing in the greatest respects, are ignored... out of sight out of mind! Yes it is sad and it will not be dealt with pro-actively... the vested interests are well covered, yet our young soldiers are dying every day! I appreciate your input and support mathira... take care.

Without the support of the officials drug trafficking cannot survive and it is sad that there seems to be no morality in them to lend a sly supporting hand in such dealings.

Hello Keith, thank you for reading this, your positive comments and for your vote. I felt a need to write something about this travesty as it has such a dark affect on so many unsuspecting lives, yet it was developed in darker days and for darker reasons that allowed the US to raise the cold war stakes.. Of course we as free thinking souls, must not make any connections, heaven forbid. A very sad fact of life and death isn't it? I like your work too Keith.. thanks for taking the time .. take care.

Interesting and good work! The viscious cycle repeats itself as the U.S. give more money to Afghanistan to stop its harvest of poppy plants. Keep writing!
