   Everybody what are your thoughts on Marijuana Prohibition
   
   meaning is it right, do you think it works, should they stop attacking a innnocent plant, Who here smokes weed

   I had a doctor remove a cancerous tumor from my back 1/2 years ago. He informed me that it was the fastest spreading type of cancer there is and was suprised it hadn't spread more than 3 inches in the 22+ years the cyst had been there, I informed him that I knew the reason and it was that I smoked marijuana every day for most of my adult life. He told me he couldn't legally agree with me but recommended I not stop doing what I was doing. It's a damned shame that I could go to jail for saving my own life. Marijuana has been proven to help  a large number of people and has never killed one person. There isn't one legal drug that can make that claim, including asprin. As a matter of fact the lethal dose of marijuana has been shown to be 3.5 kilos dropped from 150 feet onto the smoker. I am tired of being considered a criminal simply so thousands of people can keep their job. It is time that our government stopped locking up termanilly ill people for simply trying to make their lives a little more bearable.

   Prohibition is a terrible waste of resources, both in the sense of what is lost from the plant and the funds it takes to remove the plant. It will always grow and it will always be used. It's also a terrible waste of resources to imprison citizens purely for drug offense. These people can be productive to society (especially the younger users) and it costs money to lock these people up. The government could regulate who used the plant (for what reasons), make money by taxing it, and save money by not destroying it.

   Simple. When you prohibit something, you lose control over it. Prohibition did not work on alcohol for this very reason. Look, the dealer on the street doesn't care if he gets your 14 year-old daughter hooked. The answer is regulation and control. This is what has happened in the Netherlands and they have 40% less drug use than the United States. It may be imperfect, but regs and control are how we handle alcohol and cigarettes. Prohibition DOES NOT work! I am sick of watching my tax dollars fund an incompetant DEA and an unwinnable War on Drugs...Thank you Nixon.

   Legalize it with no attachments. No regulation, no taxation! It's all absurd. I've smoked ganja for more than 40 years without any problems. My doctors know it and have never discouraged it, they are more concerned with tobacco use (which I've never done). Peter Tosh used to sing "Down here in Jamaica, only cure for glaucoma" Just had my eyes tested a couple of months ago and yeah you guessed it, No Problem mon!

   Prohibition of weed works about as well as prohibition of liquor did in the 20s and 30s. Plus, it takes a plant that could be useful for making stuff like clothing, paper, biofuel, polymers, etc. and takes it off the table. Enforcement and interdiction cost us billions, and incarceration of otherwise peaceful 'offenders' destroys otherwise productive lives and likewise drains our resources.

   I used to be a regular marijuana smoker and only stopped because of its legality.  It helped me so much with anxiety, it was amazing.  I think it's insane that marijuana is illegal while tobacco, alcohol and prescription pain pills remain legal.  Anyone with half a brain understands that tobacco and alcohol are far more dangerous and debilitating than marijuana, but the religious right will always be here to fight it being legalized. 
   
   Why not legalize it, tax the hell out of it and use those proceeds to make our education system better.
   For those who contend, "but marijuana is a gateway drug to bigger and badder drugs." Sure, it's a gateway drug for those who are weak. 
   
   Ask a cancer patient, ask someone who suffers from severe pain or anxiety how bad marijuana is for them and you will get the same answer.  It's wonderful and has excellent medical benefits.
