How do you think that America will be transformed as a result of the amnesty program, for either
better or worse?
On the minus side, I see this happening to name just a few:
Our schools systems will be overwhelmed with new students, many who speak little or no English.
Our welfare systems will be flat broke as many of them learn the benefits that can be so easily obtained.
Once they get their new Social Security cards, they are eligible for the earned income credits from the IRS even if they report no income and pay no taxes. Everyone's taxes will have to go up because of this.
Our healthcare system will be burdeoned with more patients who can't afford the insurance and can't pay for their treatment. But of course we taxpayers will foot the bill for this.
Now for the plus side:
A large percentage of these people are really nice and would make great neighbors.
The farmers and orchard owners will once again get their crops harvested without the need to break the law and hire illegals. Employers will once again be able to fill those jobs that are just too hard or dirty for our own unemployed to even consider. Gone are the days when someone actually had to look for work to qualify for unemployment.
Many of the immigrant children have great minds and are eager to learn. Given the educational opportunities they will someday contribute their new-found skills to society.
Like with most things like this, there are pros and cons. Amnesty is happening and we can't stop it, so it is best to try to make it work well for everyone concerned.
Having once lived in California for almost 30 years where there is a higher percentage of illegals compared to most states I don't feel there would be any real significant difference. These people are already in the U.S.
The people who benefit the most from the way things presently are those companies which hire illegal workers and pay them under the table well below minimum wage. Many of the affluent households (choose) to have illegal maids/nannies and gardeners working for them. There are areas known for hiring "day workers" to do work on construction sites and other repair jobs. They work hard for cheap.
America is never going to deport 11-12 million people. The biggest difference we will see is an increase in tax revenues, more people getting car insurance, and health insurance. As it stands now in the event of emergencies doctors and hospitals still service them which costs citizens more money.
The amnesty program has various built in caveats and is primarily designed to offer a path to citizenship for those who have been here for years and meet a certain criteria. Truth be told I don't think we'll see much difference.
We could see a higher cost for fruits and veggies as there would be less of an illegal workforce to pick them.
The biggest benefit for keeping things the way they are has to do with avoiding having to pay these folks more money and giving them the right to vote. States that are on the border have been utilizing the benefits of having illegal workers for many years.
They don't want to suddenly have to pay them more.
Yes, this was similar to the Nazi use of the Ostarbeiter, Eastern Europeans as slave laborers in World War II. The United States are using such immigrants as Sudarbeiter.
Had the south envisioned a time where blacks would no longer be slaves they never would have "imported" millions of them! Later it became: Go back to Africa!
While these folks are illegal it's okay for them to live & work here under the table:)

My opinion is no, we should not.The problems of failed or "third world" countries have resulted in millions of people fleeing those countries to steal the better life the people of other non third world countries have. The United States is one of those countries. We have allowed these...

I bet the authors of these two quotes will be quickly identified, but the real question is... what is so wrong with what they say?"America's immigration system is outdated, unsuited to the needs of our economy and to the values of our country. We should not be content with laws that punish...

Are you in favor of amnesty or not?We have a problem in America with illegal immigration- it's not a secret. Should we have a blanket amnesty or something different ? How about a real discussion on the topic instead of a shouting match?
