   How is it possible that 150 teenagers shot 150 rounds each with shotguns and no one was injured?
   
   This past weekend I, as a Coach, attended a GISA (Georgia Independent Schools Association) clays event where about 150 middle and high school "kids" were shooting 20 and 12 gauge shotguns - 150 times each - and it was a very safe environment. One of my prior students spent last week in Tucson, AZ and ended up competing side by side with 5-time Olympic Medalist Kim Rhode! Thousands of rounds were spent last week at that event. Almost all states have 4-H shotgun/BB competitions, All have SCTP (scholastic clay target programs), all with "kids" competing - never in the news? Why? It doesn't fit!

   Your question is really right at the core of the problem we are seeing in North America at this time. Extrapolation genere ex specifica is my imperfect Latin translation. The extrapolation of a general rule based upon specific occurrences. It is extremely lazy and incorrect logic. But it is the basis for many new causes celebre.
   Because we have 10 instances of bad things happening in 3 years, then bad things happen all the time and we must do something about it, so contribute to my cause. And the media just loves this faulty construct and makes money off of it.
   American children are great! This is a logical conclusion based upon the percentage of great things they are doing compared to bad. Where I come from, and when, we were all somehow educated about firearms. Now we act like the cliche' girly girl who jumps up on a couch when she sees a spider about firearms. 99% of spiders in houses are harmless and eat flies. 99% of firearms are used correctly and safely.
   Wow - 150 rounds! Who pays for such extravagance? Good for your students.

   The thought of firing 150 12-gauge rounds makes my shoulder sore!
   
   It sounds like that event is a great example of responsible, challenging, and enjoyable use of firearms. However, since no one was hurt, no one felt the need to report on it. After all, if it bleeds it leads!

   I love to hear attention being drawn to 4-H and other such competitions. I was a 4-H shooting sports competitor myself for 11 years (starting at age 9), and attended many such events with LOTS of rounds flying and zero injuries. Ever. Except a car crash once that involved some of the 4-Hers, but nothing with firearms. It just so happens that my mom was one of the instructors, and then she married another instructor -- my sister and stepbrothers were also top competitors. We were raised with an extremely strong emphasis on firearm safety, and were brought along on hunting trips from about 4 years old on to instill in us what firearms actually do. Read: Why it's so important to never, ever treat it in any way inconsistent with the safety rules.
   
   As to why it's never in the news (aside from local news), it's precisely because people rarely get hurt. The news relies on sensationalism to get readers and they're just plain not interested in "good news," which is sad. Unfortunately, sensationalist journalism = constant fear-mongering over a wide range of topics that are often not something that we need to fear. Case in point, the somewhat recent Ebola scare that didn't apply to about 99.99999% of the U.S. population. Perhaps if we the readers spent more time reading and sharing good news, they'd write more of it .

   You're right it doesn't fit. The problem is we have an incredibly biased media who had no objectivity when it comes to reporting new stories. They are a bunch of liberals who for some reason, give the current administration a free pass every time he breaks a law. The media has been bought and paid for by power elite and the stories that get reported are selected strategically to help complete their agenda. Did you know that every almost major newspaper, every major TV network and almost every new affiliate in this country is owned by 5 corporations and those 5 corporations have one family who owns the controlling stock interest in all of it? So essentially every piece of news...all media is controlled by one family. The Rothschild Family in France. I'm going to help you because you asked the right question.
