How much of Sanders popularity do you attribute to the anti-Clinton feel to this election?

The young may be voting for Sanders because of his views on College and College Loans, as well as other issues of particular interest to them, but for those well into their thirties and older, why are they moving in his direction as well?

Personally, I think that people feel his past track record is outstanding. He has been fighting for the same rights for as long as he has been involved in the government. His free healthcare for all plan is very appealing to many even though we would be paying higher taxes. From a friends point of view "I pay $8000 a year for health insurance for a family of four, based on our income. If I was paying $5000 in taxes at the end of the year, I would still be alright with that knowing I don't have to skip a doctors appointment or try and save on my families care" and btw, she is a stay at home mom and her husband makes about $40k per year. People, as myself, also like the fact that he does not bow down to corporations who have gotten more tax cuts recently unlike Hillary. He is his own man. As a family, we have never donated to a campaign but we have this time. To him specifically. His views on low income areas are important. We think that integrating programs for the youth (in "ghetto" areas) is an important step for the future. Get those kids off of the streets. People in their 30's and up care about all of the above because they more then likely have a younger generation family members whose future they care about.

Interesting points, and while I am not confident about a 'free healthcare' system, I can understand the point of view, especially since Obamacare has made Insurance significantly more expensive for most 'working class' families.

People are tired of dead lock and want truth and true freedom lockdown to all of the citizens in the United States. To dream the impossible dream on February 18, 2016 A.D. 7:46am and forever. This is the American dream for some people to get out of dead lock to true freedom lock down without all of the smoke and mirrors entertainment that is going on in the media and hot air talking that is going into meltdown mode in full trailblazing glazed over eyes looking for a unglazed doughnut!

The problem as I see it... I like Bernie, nice old guy, lots of good and IDEAL ideas for a more perfect world.
But the world isn't perfect, not close, what we need is a real bastard in there who will do what needs to be done, and gets how economics w

Well Ok ... Cruz... Lawyer, lifetime politician, what does he know about business or economy or foreign nations?
Rubio... similar to Cruz, more intelligent and level headed guy, but not experienced enough.  Bush... just no, no, and no.
      That leaves...

Unfortunately Paula that's not how it works, if the Pres is focused on social issues and agendas, then that's the direction the Administration goes... it takes someone who will prioritize the economy and trade to fix the issues. VP doesn't hack it.

Paula, I have to admit I'm a bit shocked to see you talking about Cruz or Rubio.  I personally don't want women sent back to the 1950's wink but we can agree to disagree I still think you're super cool lol

Chris..I can understand ur shock. It's my belief that despite their leanings, they will not be able to get anything passed that will hurt women. They can only try & pout. I wouldn't consider either if I didn't despise Hillary w/ my entire being.

I fall into that "and older" category, and I'm a woman, so according to some very famous feminists, I should automatically be for Hillary---and I was, the last time she ran. This time, Bernie is getting my vote.

That's not a vote against Hillary. It's a vote FOR Bernie, because he seems to be saying a lot of things I believe in:

    * Health care should be a human right, not a privilege reserved for those who can afford it. Wall Street needs to straighten up, and be held accountable for their misdeeds.

    * Corporations should pay their fair share, and stop sucking profits into off-shore entities, at the expense of their workers.

    * Everyone deserves a living wage.

Those things are all in line with what I believe---and yes, Hillary is saying most of the same things, but in her case, she's saying them while taking money from corporations and Wall Street and Big Pharma. I can't really believe she's taking that money, and then will turn around and hold those same guys accountable.

Bernie's not taking any money from them, so maybe we have a chance with him to fix some of the things that are broken, rather than getting yet another bunch of back room deals that maintain the status quo.

Excellent reply, thank you for the comment.  Nothing I like more than listening to or reading why someone believes in a person (rather than them regurgitating media talking points as to why someone is bad).

IMHO......While I'm not surprised by Bernie's popularity, I have serious doubt he will be chosen as THE Dem candidate.  My uneducated "guess" is that 50% of this wave of "Feel the Bern," is due to genuine, sincere belief & approval of him~~and 50% is die-hard liberals who REFUSE to vote for Hillary I-am-a-thug  Clinton.  Bernie's their only alternative.

My attitude toward Bernie is that I think my tribe of grandchildren would LOVE him as their Grandpa!

This leaves me, stressing over my notes & chart of Conservative candidates, none of whom I'm totally in love with.  Seems the relationship needs more time.  Maybe we should live together in sin for a while.  I'm not sure.  It's so damned difficult to see the forest for the trees when you're dating.  Our intuition gets quite a work-out. I shudder to imagine we marry any one of them.  It's literally IMPOSSIBLE to divorce the creeps..................

As always, I love reading your posts.  I hear you, I totally understand the feeling... its like O.M.G.... I can't believe it... but the best option we have out of this mess may indeed be Trump!  O.M.G.... I mean... really...

I'm 42 and Bernie has had my attention since we protested the Iraq war the 2nd time.  He was one of only a handful of people who had the guts to stand in vocal opposition to that war.  At that point, I began to learn more about this "outsider" "fringe" man who had the guts to stand up to the establishment.  It turns out he always has - and although he is being painted out to be a polarizing figure by the mass media etc. today, historically he's had the respect of both democrats and sane republicans.

I am voting for Bernie because I believe in his platform.  I am a feminist as well, but I believe his proposals align him more with the interests of working class women like myself.

I believe healthcare should be single payer and I have for years.  Although the "affordable care act" was Obama's solution to appease - it did not go far enough and is in no way affordable for many who face fines if they don't dole out all the money for private insurance.

I also believe that higher education is something that will better the whole of society.

I get very irritated when people say the only people who support Bernie want "free stuff".  No. What we want is for the tax dollars we ALL pay in, to work for the good of all of the citizens.  I think Bernie's vision is a vision many disenfranchised people share as we have watched both parties continually become more bought and paid for by special interests and stop representing the good of their constituents.

If nothing else comes from Bernie's run; I hope that it may at least ignite a spark to create a 3rd viable party in this country.  This is something we desperately need and have for so long.  The two party system is not effective (understatement).

Chris.....Doesn't Bernie's AGE give U pause? U have to hope he has a fabulous running mate. His age concerns me!  How much do we know about his overall health?I just couldn't, wouldn't vote for Hillary for dog warden.IMHO she's a blatant criminal.

No it doesn't give me pause, he's released his medical records and been given a clean bill of health.  Warren as his running mate would be a dream ticket.  One can always hope.  I will never vote Hillary either. On that we agree!

I have to say I really like Elizabeth.  Too bad she didn't jump in. I believe she'd have given Hill a good hard run for her money.  Warren would be an excellent choice.  Call Bernie & tell him!!  LOL

I appreciate the thought you put into that post... I wrote a hub called 'all votes are equal' - 3rd party fails because for every well thought out vote, there is a vote made with no more depth or understanding of matters than "I always vote Dem/Rep"

I hope at this point that some people are breaking that annoying habit of always pushing the R or D. They see now it's pretty much voting "lesser of evils" and are starting to wake up to reality. Maybe Sanders can do what Nader couldn't before.
