   Better overall because each new generation is less racist than the previous one but worse because once Obama was elected president the racists went into panic mode hence Donald Trump's dog whistles and his make America great again logo ,Great like when a black man couldn't dream of being president.

   Overall race relations are better, as I with time each generation seems themselves looking at each other as individuals.  That being said you will always have a fringe element which when threatened will become more vocal and make it appear that we have a fractured society.  When this happens we must go after the "individuals" who are causing the issues and not label.  Many times the individuals who are trying to break up unity merely spread the seeds of hate and hope the rest of society will help grow the hate.  For instance, how many times when you see maybe two or three guys get together to commit a crime and instead of saying each individuals name we say a group of young teens thrashed; a Muslim cell did this; group of Blacks did that; group of Whites did that.  The writing may be true in that the group who committed the crimes were teenagers, or of a particular race, ethnicity, etc.  However, in writing stories many times we choose our words carefully in order to get a desired response.  Writing is very powerful, especially for those who are easily manipulated or skewed in one's thinking.  All one has to do is plant a small thought of negativity and that person will run with it and label an entire group with a broad brush.

   They are probably slightly better.
   What we're witnessing now is no different from what people have been saying has been going on for generations.
   What goes on between races, cultures, and faiths has very little to do with who is sitting in the white house. These are community issues.
   The only difference is more cameras are capturing behavior.

      Amen, that was what I was going to say. People refuse to take into account the proliferation & advancement of technology just during the 8 years President Obama has been in office.

   It depends on who you ask. I see no difference however I live in a very mixed area on the east coast with various faiths, races, etc. I do find it odd or telling, that often the people who I hear saying race relations are worse are those who feel superior by assuming incorrect things about other people when they themselves have little to no education, entrepreneurial success, or accomplishments in life and thus need a scapegoat to blame things on. When I ask them specifics about their life and current life status this becomes all the more clear...and sad.
   
   I think that those who blame race relations on the President of the United States, need to look in their mirrors and look at their own actions and in-actions that are contributing to bad race relations. More than a few blame the President for racism when he is simply not to blame for Americans' racial outlooks, biases, or outright bigotry. Those things were already in each individual long before they ever even heard of him, saw him, or uttered his name.

   Worse, with it politically acceptable to demonize the demographic majority of the nation with a collective blame and guilt for things done six generations ago.
   So you get socially acceptable "kill all white men" hash tags and blacks killing whites whether the Dallas shooters saying they wanted to kill whites or indirectly via the knockout game / polar bear hunting, hit them in the back of the head, who cares if they die or are left disabled.

   Why blame the state of race relations on Obama?
   
   A long time ago, way before Obama ever thought of being in politics, I visited a baby store with friend of mine from Trinidad. She selected her purchases and went to pay for it.
   
   She paid cash and a Trinidadian coin made its way into the cashier's palm, my friend apologized and changed the coin to a US coin explaining that she was just visiting.
   While she was waiting for the process to complete the cashier launched into tirade, at her, saying that it has happened to her before and it's always Canadians who tried to pass Canadian coins. She also went on to say to my friend that she's always on the look out for "you Canadians" when you try to pay with your low currency.
   My friend didn't have any Canadian currency on her.
   
   My point is, the stupidity of racism  did not leave Americans. This example of the dumb cashier who was so blinded by racism that she insulted a paying customer who was also a visitor to the US for the first time, was excited at finding cute outfits for her baby daughter and once thought that Americans had class is just a minor incident but it speaks volumes to those listens. 
   The cashier was white and my friend is brown. Please note that I'm not saying that all Americans are racist.
