I believe his trip is an effort to increase his foreign experience but it had me wonder about something else.
Does anyone recall the last time a presidential candidate went on an oversees trip, meeting with officials from other countries, when they didn't hold a current political position here in the US?

Can anyone recall when the last time this happened?
I think most front runners in recent years have gone on a tour before the election. They don't usually manage to insult their host countries though.
