Are they pro-Islam, or secular, will they place democracy in Syria if they succeed? As much as I wish an oppressed people to succeed against an oppresive government, I cannot help but feel that there is always the possibility the world will see one regime die and another rise.
If I am not mistaken the beginning and bulk of the rebels was very splintered and not cohesive. Small groups that had little impact themselves but although the were not coordinated per se were at the same time. That does not bode well for any country or peoples. Syria is a country without a leader on either side. There is no cohesive ideology among Syrians at all.
They have no uniform identity beyond wanting to depose the current ruler.
