Looks like Russia WANTs Trump…….Real BAD……WHY?? Although I believe it would be a Proverbial MIRACLE if Donald Trump ESCAPEs a Prison Sentence for any number of TORTs and or Crimes he‘s Currently Trying to Defend himself against, I’m not 100% Sure there’s a Communist CONSPIRACY at this particular time even though the EVIDENCE is Quite Compelling ~ However, how can a Quasi-Rational, Vigilant Human Being possibly “Ignore or Dismiss” the obvious CONNECTION / Affection between the two individuals? ~ Their “MUTUAL Admiration”, kind words for Putin from Donald & Vice Versa? “Delusional” Donald’s suggestion that he would Actually CONSIDER Crashing the GLOBAL Economy into Irreversible DAMAGE by “Defaulting on U.S. Debt”? His Overt Hostility & CONTEMPT for NATO, a Critically Important Group of ALLIED Nations that we have relied upon for DECADEs?   Ok, how about some publicly available, verifiable facts then:
  
  (1) In 2016 Donald Trump said "No, I have nothing to do with Russia, John. How many times do I have say that? Are you a smart man? I have nothing to with Russia, I have nothing to do with Russia".
  
  (2) In 2008 Donald Trump Jr. said "Russians make up a pretty disproportionate cross-section of a lot of our assets. We see a lot of money pouring in from Russia."
  
  (3) In 2008 Donald Trump Jr traveled to Russia six times in 18 months, saying: "As much as we want to take our business over there, Russia is just a different world. It is a question of who knows who, whose brother is paying off who".
  
  (4) "Since the 1980s, Trump and his family members have made numerous trips to Moscow in search of business opportunities, and they have relied on Russian investors to buy their properties around the world".
  
  (5) April 27, 2016 - As a candidate for the GOP nomination, Donald Trump gave a foreign policy speech, which was attended by Russian ambassador to the US Sergey Kislyak. Kislyak said he was not showing a preference for any particular candidate by attending. He did not attend any speeches by other candidates for the GOP nomination. Trump's speech was given at the Center for the National Interest.
  
  (6) The Center for National Interest describes Vladimir Putin as "Russia's Reagan".
  
  (7) The advisory council for the Center for National Interest includes Alexey Pushkov. Pushkov is a Russian Duma official who was one of several Russian officials targeted for sanctions by the U.S. government in response to the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
  
  (8) The chairman of the Center for National Interest's advisory council is Richard Burt who sits on the senior advisory board of the Russian Alfa Bank in Moscow. Burt helped draft Trump's foreign policy speech.
  
  (9) In an interview in early April 2016 Richard Burt talked favorably about an "America First" policy. On April 27 Trump unveiled his "America First" policy. Richard Burt was recruited by Trump's campaign Director, Paul Manafort.
  
  (10) In 2010 Trump's campaign Director Paul Manafort went to work in Ukraine for pro-Russian candidate Viktor Yanukovych, the former president who fled to Russia when he was ousted in the Ukrainian revolution of 2014.
  
  (11) From 2005, Manafort worked in Ukraine for the Russian gas tycoon Dmytro Firtash and a billionaire Russian oligarch Oleg Deripaska. Both worked with Manafort on separate investment deals in New York and Ukraine which have led to lawsuits. Manafort works closely with Trump's foreign policy advisor, Carter Page.
  
  (12) In 2004 Trump's foreign policy advisor, Carter Page opened Merrill Lynch's Moscow office, and worked in Russia until 2008.
  
  (13) In 2008 Carter Page went to Turkmenistan to raise a $1 billion private equity fund and buy assets in the former Soviet republic, meeting with top government officials.
  
  (14) Carter Page is a major investor in Gazprom, the Russian state-owned energy company.
  
  (15) In 2015 Carter Page (investor in Gazprom, which lost value due to US sanctions) publishes an article condemning US sanctions against Russia: ". . . the economic injustice unleashed upon the millions of people residing in Russia, Ukraine and the former Soviet Union by misguided Western policies has met limited recognition."
  
  (16) July, 2016 - "American intelligence agencies have told the White House they now have “high confidence” that the Russian government was behind the theft of emails and documents from the Democratic National Committee, according to federal officials who have been briefed on the evidence."
  
  These are not unsupported tales (check the sources).
  
  I don't think Trump is ideologically aligned with Russia. He's a businessman, plain and simple. He's all about the deal. But that's all a shrewd operator like Putin needs as an opening. Putin was a KGB foreign intelligence officer for 16 years before he became president. It's likely he knows something about how to manipulate people. Using someone's personal desires, ambition and personality flaws as leverage to get them to do what he wants was his stock-in-trade. Based on all of the above, I think three things are very likely to be true: 1) Putin (many layers removed) is using Trump to further Russia's interests; 2) key people in Trump's network (Manafort, Burt, Page etc.) are, either directly or indirectly, facilitating that manipulation through their contacts within the Russian business world*; 3) Their main motivation is financial reward via their Russian business interests.
  
  *If you want information that demonstrates how the Russian state apparatus, Russian business world, and Russian criminal underworld are intimately linked I'd be happy to provide it.

  Are you getting confused between these two statements? Or saying that having business contacts in Russia, through third parties means a direct, covert, unsavory but compelling relationship between Putin and Trump?

  I'm saying that based on the information available, and Putin's background, it's likely Putin (through various machinations) is using Trump as a useful idiot. I'm also saying that deep, personal, financial ties between Trump's closest advisors and Russia, means they have a vested interest in pandering to Putin. And I'm saying that federal officials now believe it's very likely the Russian security services where behind the hack on the DNC. It's also likely they were behind hacks on the DCCC and the Clinton campaign servers. So any which way you look at it, it's becoming increasingly likely that a foreign power (with ties to several of Trump's closest advisors) is exerting influence over a presidential election, on an unprecedented level, and Trump (complicit or not) is the intended beneficiary of that influence.

  I don't doubt any of that. And I don't doubt that this isn't the first time Russia (and/or other governments) have meddled in American elections, or that America has meddled in elections in other countries.

  Covert or not, the Trump campaign's proven connection to Russia is a serious threat to the interests of the country, and trying to shrug it off is a dangerous act of wilful ignorance.
  
  This is the problem with entrusting the country to someone who only ever cares about "making a deal". Almost everything Trump does indicates that a "good deal" means one that benefits Trump and his corporate empire. His behaviour indicates he would put himself and his business before any other consideration, including the interests of the country. Please tell me, what has Trump ever done that indicates otherwise? That's an open question to anyone planning to vote for Trump.
  
  Likewise, are Trump's advisors able to give objective policy advice on Russia, given their deep political and business ties with that country? One of the advisors who wrote his foreign policy speech runs a bank in Moscow, another is a big investor in the Russian state-owned company Gazprom. His campaign manager worked for several Russian oligarchs with connections to organised crime and the Russian government. Trump himself has courted Putin for years to further his own business interests. And now Trump (jokingly or not) invites Russia to commit espionage against his political rival. So what exactly have these advisors, and Trump, done that indicates they are able to objectively formulate sensible policy on Russia that's in the interests of the country and not just themselves? Again that's an open question to anyone who is planning to vote for Trump, because I really want to know.

  Are you a politician, Don? Because you insist on talking about anything but the topic at hand. The only thing in this entire post about a covert relationship with Putin was "Trump himself has courted Putin for years to further his own business interests." and I highly doubt that you can support even that (it still doesn't say anything about any kind of actual relationship; just that Trump wants one) with anything but that Trump has business connections in Russia.

  A "covert relationship with Putin" may be you're topic at hand, but it's not mine. As far as I'm concerned the topic at hand is Trump and his campaign's links to Russia and whether or not they represent a threat to the country's interests. The title of the thread is "The Trump / Putin COMMUNIST Link and Donald’s Anti-AMERICAN Agena[sic]" and that's what all my comments have related to. That's why I said "I don't think Trump is ideologically aligned with Russia" i.e. I don't think Trump is a Communist, and "He's a businessman, plain and simple. He's all about the deal." i.e. I don't think he necessarily has an anti America agenda.

  So you see the misunderstanding; you did not understand what I was speaking of, which was a claim of a covert relationship between Trump and Putin. A "compelling" one, no less.
  
  I have little problems with anything you've posted (although saying Trump invited Russia to spy on the US is an exaggeration), but none of it had anything to do with the post you originally replied to. You took off on a new tangent completely, while seeming to stay on the local topic - the statement from AP that Trump and Putin have a covert relationship. Of course, he has also declined to continue that discussion as there is no evidence that it is true and instead wants to talk about Trump's business connections in a country Putin heads.
  
  How Trump supporters think about having business operations in a foreign country? I don't have much trouble with it - can you explain why you do? Clinton has taken "donations" from several foreign countries (and evidence is mounting that she then disbursed US "favors" to them) - how is that any different? Except, of course that you favor Clinton over Trump?

  I jumped into a discussion I hadn't fully read, so my fault for the confusion. But I'm happy to explain my concerns.
  
  The ties Trump's closest allies have to Russia go beyond having international business operations, or even accepting a donation. They extend to directly helping Putin and his allies take actions in the interests of Russia and against those of the US (previous comment outlining those ties).
  
  My main cause for concern is the connection between these political and business ties, and the change in Republican Party policy towards Russia since Trump became nominee. The Republican platform was strongly against Russian aggression in Ukraine (as you would expect). They called for the US to send arms to Ukraine and called Obama weak for not doing so (a GOP bonus!)
  
  Now the GOP takes the opposite position, and we have Trump on television saying he "might recognize Russia’s claim to the region". So why the change? "Two Republican National Committee officials acknowledged privately last week that Trump’s campaign pushed for the change, which was made in platform committee meetings in the days prior to the start of the Republican convention in Cleveland two weeks ago . . . They said that, apart from the Ukraine change, Trump’s campaign seemed generally uninterested in the platform altogether."(1)
  
  So the GOP reverses its position on Putin and his aggression in Ukraine, after Trump (who's openly courted Putin's attention for years) and his advisors (with proven political and business ties to Russia) call for it (and nothing else) to be dropped. At the same time, the intelligence services say they have "high confidence"(2) that Russian security services were involved in the hack on the Democratic party, which happens to benefit Trump's election campaign.
  
  Any reasonable person should be hearing alarm bells at this point. But that's not the end of it. It turns out that Trump's security advisor, retired Army Gen. Michael Flynn, now works for Russia Today, the Russian state-owned media channel that has been described as a "propaganda bullhorn" for the Kremlin(3). He has been described as having "an odd affection for Russia and its authoritarian government", having "questionable ties to a hostile power" and being "weirdly, strangely friendly with Vladimir Putin’s regime"(4)
  
  I'm sorry, but I reject the implication that this is typical election partisanship. It goes beyond that. Having a presidential candidate connected to an adversarial country in so many different ways, is deeply concerning. A former Director of the Defense Intelligence Agency has said the influence being exerted here smells like a Russian "active measures" operation(5).
  
  Don't get me wrong. I don't think Trump is a communist. I don't think Trump is a Russian agent either. And I don't think Trump is actively trying to harm America. But I know that cracking the Russian market has been a long-term personal business goal for Trump(6). Absolutely nothing wrong with that.
  
  But his (and his campaign's) behavior makes me think he would pursue (and currently is pursuing) those business goals at the expense of the national interest. And I fear he views the Presidency merely as a tool to help him do that.
  
  So my question is, what has Trump done that indicates to you, that despite current appearances, he's not currently pursuing his (and his advisors') personal business interests in Russia, at the expense of the national interest? Is there some example of public service I have missed that demonstrates Trump would willingly sacrifice the interests of his business empire, for the interests of the country?

  Trump is a loose cannon who dose not have the forsight anywhere near what Putin has. Trump is playing a chess game he knows little about on an international scale. Trump had a Trump game much like monopoly, where people bankrupted each other in order to win. Luckily it failed too, he can't even keep a casino from going bankrupt. How do you loose money on a corrupted business. So politic is his only other choice, where Government would go bankrupt if they were actually running it like a real business. Trump may loose this election if he brings up sex scandals and picking on race and cultures. Not counting the selection part of it all.

What has given you that trust? What has Trump done to make you believe that changing the Republican's foreign policy on Russia was for the sake of the country, and not for the sake of his advisors' personal business interests in Russia?   That's even more worrying. You're a supporter, and you can't think of anything Trump has done to suggest he and his closest advisors are not furthering their business interests in Russia at the expense of the national interest.   I'm not concerned that it will happen. I'm concerned that it is happening. His behaviour suggests he'd sell his own grandmother for the sake of a "deal" because he's a businessman first and foremost (even his own political campaign took a back seat while he went to Scotland to promote his business). What happens when business interests conflict with the national interest, as is the case with Russia?
  
  Add to that, the fact that the intelligence agencies have said it's most likely Russian security services hacked the DNC, and the business connections to Russia most of his foreign policy advisors have, outlined in this comment, and the fact that the only part of the GOP platform the Trump campaign wanted to change (and did change) was its position on Putin and Russia, outlined in this comment.
  
  And add to that, the recent news that 50 GOP officials have written a letter saying that Trump "would put at risk our country’s national security and well-being"(1), signed by former Directors of the CIA, the NSA, secretaries of Homeland Security etc.
  
  Do you really have to ask what has convinced me? Is this really not enough? Even if you think Trump would be surrounded by advisors who will make sure he doesn't do too much harm. I have to ask, what has Trump done to suggest he will listen to advisors?
  
  This can't be dismissed with "yeah but . . . Clinton". If you have evidence from reliable sources to suggest that Clinton is more likely, or just as likely, to sell out to Putin as Trump is, then present it. In the meantime, I'm wondering why none of this is causing alarm bells to ring for you? Is it because Trump agrees with you on some domestic issues? Why are you willing to overlook evidence suggesting Trump will put business before country, and may already be doing so?

  Frankly, I'd rather see someone put their business, their income, before the country than I would see someone put their personal power above the country.
  
  Nor does it bother me one whit that various political flaks, from either party, have to say about Trump. They all hate him, they all want him out of the picture, and they will all say and do most anything to accomplish that goal.
  
  But setting that aside, many companies do business in Russia, as does the country itself. Do they always put the needs of the US above their own? Lets not be silly; 999 business decisions out of 1000 don't even address the question when dealing with foreign countries. If they did we wouldn't have such a trade deficit.
  
  So why is Trump any different? Because it's Russia? Because of the office, which can do almost nothing without congressional approval? Because he's such a loose cannon? Or just because it's a political ploy to keep the people from electing him?
  
  (At the end of it, Clinton has apparently already sold out to foreign interests, including but not limited to Russia, in exchange for donations to her charity...that gives only 10% back out. When you ask for evidence that Clinton is more likely to do so, there it is. But to date there is exactly zero that Trump will - which one is thus more likely?)
  
  Alarm bells? Trump is one giant alarm bell going off. But Clinton is a whole country of them, and is exceedingly skilled in using them to her advantage. It continues to amaze me that people continue to support a woman that could be, IMO, the most corrupt and powerful figure in American politics since J Edgar Hoover.

  Yes many countries do business in Russia, and the CEOs don't always make decisions based on what's best for the country. That's what CEOs do. But it's not what you want a president to do.
  
  Trump is a CEO. Like all CEOs he makes decisions based on what's best for his business. But as a CEO who's running for president, you would expect some indication that he is able to switch from CEO-Trump to Presidential-Trump.
  
  You said yourself, he's given no indication he's capable of that. In fact there is compelling evidence to suggest the business interests of him and his advisors have already influenced his foreign policy on Russia.
  
  As a CEO, Trump is entitled to outsource his manufacturing to Mexico, China etc(1). But it's starting to look like CEO-Trump is all there is. And that's a big problem, because it leaves real doubt when it comes to questions like:
  
  If Putin offered concessions beneficial to Trump's business interests, would Trump ignore Russian acts that are not in the national interest? The fact you (a supporter) can't offer a good reason to believe Trump would sacrifice his business interests for the sake of the national interest, is bad. The fact that we have strong indicators of what CEO-Trump would do, but you choose to ignore that, is baffling. I can't get my head round it.
  
  You mention Clinton selling out "to foreign interests". There are so many reliable sources that debunk that claim, it doesn't have any credibility. I can post them here, but do I have to do all the work? And even if you weren't sure. Had some doubts. There's plenty of personal history that indicates the capacity, capability and willingness to do public service. So constantly referring to Clinton is a bit of a smokescreen. You're supporting Trump because you like him and his policies, aren't you?
  
  Is the benefit of voting for someone you agree with on certain issues, worth the cost of voting for someone who is incapable of switching from CEO to president?
  
  Can you really not see the danger of having someone stuck in CEO-mode acting as President, when there are so many people with deep pockets on the prowl (Vladimir Putin for example)? If you are aware of that danger, but choose to ignore it for the sake of a chance to build a wall etc, then I honestly don't know what to say.

  I see Paul Manafort has resigned due to his "complicated ties to pro-Russian politics"(1) and potentially being in breech of the Foreign Agents Registration Act for undisclosed lobbying of the government on behalf of "foreign leaders"(2).
  
  I did say The Trump campaign's ties to Russia were a problem.
