   Gas here in Bradford PA is 2.69. We also have a oil refinery here, so you would think it would be lower but ITS NOT, and it sucks...

   It's Monday in the AZ lowest gas $2.33 highest is $2.99.

      Whatever place in CA you are planning to travel just enter that zipcode in gasbuddy.com to get the cheapest gas in that area.
      
      PS: Some of the places like Costco/Sam's club require membership.

   Just over $3.10 per gallon for regular and $3.22 upgrade in octane. My rule of thumb is never purchase gas from the stations right off the highways. They are generally higher in price.....

   CW, don't feed the troll, they'll follow you worse than a lost puppy.  Trolls aren't as cute as puppies though.  Some people you'll never get through to.
   
   RKHenry, that's a lot of the price increase right there.  But there's evidence China and India are retooling their economies to be less dependent on American consumers.  Let's face it there is much more profit to be made selling internally than there is selling to broke Americans.  If their factories start to hit on all cylinders again, you'll see the demand, thus the price of oil skyrocket.

                  I think what he's trying to say is that supply and demand are pretty much natural law.  You can cheat them to an extent, but sooner or later things revert to equilibrium between supply and demand. 
                  
                  For example, if you try to control the price of oil by fixing the price, you will get shortages.  Why?  Well because you can only charge so much for gas, you'll only sell so much because at some point your costs will exceed your profit from selling gas.  So you have shortages. 
                  
                  OK, you might say, let's manipulate supply.  If supply is the cause of high prices, then we'll just subsidize the supply.  The problem with that is oil is not gas.  Gas is refined from oil and for that to happen you have to have a process from which oil becomes gas.  The problem is that there has been pressure in this country over the last 30 years to stop the building of new refineries by people concerned with the ecology of the planet.  So we have a bit of a bottleneck when it comes to supply.  We can buy from foreign producers, but that leaves us hostage to the political climate of other nations.
                  
                  OK, let's try biofuels.  After all if we can grow our own fuel, we won't need those pesky foreigners and can avoid destroying the biosphere.  The problem with that is two-fold.  First we need to eat, too.  Every acre that is used for biofuel is an acre that is not available for foods.  The other problem is that using biofuel will require more lands be put under cultivation, which can have a deleterious effect on the environment.
                  
                  By refusing to allow the market to set the price of oil and have people change their habits, we engage in so many different schemes that the cure is often worse than the disease.  Price serves a function in a market.  It determines the relative scarcity of a good.  When a good becomes too scarce, people will find alternatives to that good.  In searching for an alternative, the alternative must have as many benefits as the good being replaced or be slightly inferior.  When we approach problems from that perspective we allow the optimal choice to be made, rather than one decided upon by a minority of people.
