One man's success is another man's failure. I think it's down to the individual to say whether they have been successful or not. Ultimately if you do your best, that's a success of sorts.
For me, success is raising my children well. Jackie Kennedy said, "If you fail at raising your children, it doesn't really matter what else you may succeed at."
