In the words of scripture, "...the poor you will always have with you..." but still, i believe we can and should do something about the poverty levels

Poverty is usually less crushing in better performing capitalist societies, but since all is relative in competitive systems it by definition can never be eliminated. In collectivist societies, poverty is usually more widespread and harsh due to lower levels of overall economic performance, though such societies go to great lengths to maintain a fiction of elimination in the face of no real hope of success. The conclusion is that poverty will always be present in all societies.

    Yeah, but not anytime soon.

A radical redistribution of wealth would certainly help lower poverty but that arguably is not fair....

Only if we decide to 'kill' all the poor people!

Please, tell me, that we are not that drastic.

There have always been the rich and the poor,
remember the surfs, the sharecroppers, the landowners,
    the kings?

The rich and the poor, will each always be a part of life.

The best we can do, is to give a fair and equal chance, but
even then, some children are simply born with " disadvantages", or
the more politically correct term, " challenges".   Some people
are just too lazy to earn their own keep.

" Redistrubition of wealth"..........will never, ever change that!

Sure it is...but it will never happen. There is more than enough money out there to cure every social problem in the world. But, I'm not asking for a redistribution of wealth, because everyone must first take personal responsibility. It's the old teach a man to fish proverb. The problem is that the majority of the global population lives in a present-hedonistic state of learned helplessness. Not to mention that poor people reproduce at a much higher rate than the educated and wealthy classes.
