If you lost a loved one through a violent act could you forgive the perpetrator?

Can you forgive someone who took a loved one away from you as the result of a violent act? What would be your reasons or motivation for forgiving or not forgiving?

Sure I could, right as they were lowering his or her body into the grave.

not a chance. i promise that if you violently take someone i care about from me, i will take your life from you no matter what. prison won't stop me and you had better hope you don't get away because of some stupid technocallity because i will make death take a while to happen. for those who would forgive such a person, you make me sick.like Gusser said, maybe as they are being lowered into the ground but even then i probably wouldn't.
