Why is it acceptable for certain groups to profile and not for others?
Insurance companies, for example, are allowed to profile before offering certain policies depending on the health and well being of the policy holder. Why then do we not believe profiling should be acceptable for the use in law enforcement?
I don't find anything wrong with profiling as such. The FBI has people who specialize in it. The problem is that it is one of those thing with more than one meaning. The problem came when some indulged in what was more like stereotyping, when some people were singled out for harassment due to being in a particular group. Also political groups play this up for political reasons.
Profiling like it or not is a wonderful and proven accurate method for predicting many things. Sady we live in a time when we are all afraid of hurting someone else feelings. We try to be so equal that we become narrow minded. This country does still use profiling for cases involving multiple homicides and a couple other things but it is no longer made as public as before.
