Do you want the "court of public opinion" running our judicial system?
Is this court elected, appointed, hired or what? What did the media dream up this time? Public pressure has no place in our court system i.e. Casey Anthony- Trayvon Martin, etc. Elected officials are being blackmailed at the polls to make decisions to please the public rather than those that are in the law books. Decisions that are popular rather than right. The public elects these people to do a job. Let them do it without interference.
Courts are made up of people, who are, in most cases, appointed by politicians who are elected. Do you recall Plessy vs. Ferguson upholding "separate but equal" as constitutional? Or the Supreme Court rubber stamping the Patriot Act?
Blind adherence to institutional authority only serves to exacerbate the problem. Courts and police are not above immoral behavior, and, at least in a democracy, when a decision or ruling is so egregious it defies rationality, there is a chance at changing the situation, rather than just having to accept what authority figures tell us is and isn't so.
Should Courts be separate from politics? It's impossible for them to be. It's a myth that there ever was a complete separation.
