Should there be changes in child custody laws?

Do you think child custody laws are fair to both parents? If full custody is already set, do you think (generally) a noncustodial parent has to go through too many loops to receive full or split custody?

I've already sent letters to my MP regarding Canada's 'Status Quo' law. I also think custodial parents who knowingly leave their children in abusive environments, should be held accountable. Safeguards should be automatically embedded for non-custodial parents to prevent loss of visitation rights, hate, child support should be made to a government office, to deter non-payment of child support. Maybe some auto-fines. Just some thoughts.

I agree that parents should be held accountable for what they do with their children when they are not with them. I don't know much about the custody laws in Canada, but it sounds like you are taking the right steps to making your voice heard :-)

I'll probably get hissed and booed at for my POV, but I don't believe the "modern" custody laws are in -children's- best interest, and the children's best interest should be the -only- factor.  I believe if a couple splits up, children should be raised by their mother, unless there's a truly legitimate reason why it wouldn't be in the child's best interest.  I also believe guys who didn't marry their child's mothers should not have any rights.  These days, too much emphasis is on 'rights,' and not on 'responsibilities.'

That's an interesting POV..not exactly one I agree with completely, but everyone is entitled to their own opinions :-) I do agree that custody laws should be in the best interest of the children though.
