Why did Obama keep blaming the Youtube video for the Benghazi attack?
We now know that Obama knew it was terrorists who attacked the consulate in Benghazi within two hours according to the latest emails. Yet he kept blaming the attack on the video. That poor video director was arrested for nothing and was made to be the scapegoat. First they refused to help Ambassador Stephens when they knew that the consulate had already experienced attacks, then they try to blame the incident on some poor guy. Obama made things worse by trying to cover it up instead of being honest and saying that he doesn't have the terrorists on the run like he boasted.
Simple answer - In order to cover up the fact that his Middle East policy is a total failure. This incident occurred close to the election and he and Axelrod et al knew right well the truth could severely hamper his reelection efforts so they came up with a cock-and-bull story to obfuscate the issue. Another reason (among many) to vote this guy out of office.
Someone who has been there weighs in on the incident:

all i can say is i hope your wish comes true and Mr. Obama loses the election because i'm going to be having a hayday with people like you in a year or two.
I hope you're right. Make as much hay all you want in two years. Romney will be in and Obama out and that's fine for now.
