Do you think it's possible for humanity to achieve a state of universal peace?

Will we ever stop waging war, putting people down, lying, stealing, and cheating?  Will we ever, as a species, exist purely to see others thrive?

No, I really don't believe here will ever be a long lasting peace because of human nature.  We humans always have diverse ideas, a competitive spirit and some other attributes that are not so pleasant.  Someone will always step in an say there is a better way and then there goes the peace.  Put that on a larger scale and the possibility of peace gets further and further away.

It's possible but not probable. In fact, I don't think it will ever happen unfortunately. There are so many people who benefit from a lack of universal peace and there are so many people that appear to be happy just to contribute to this state. Many people have a negative or even evil nature by circumstances, choice, or upbringing. Just to let you know, this is coming from a realistic optimist.

If there were a lot more people in this world with this positive way of thinking, I would say yes, it is possible. Unfortunately, there are not, so the real answer if no. There have been individuals who dedicated themselves to bring peace or "save the world", but they are usually thought of as strange and not so easily accepted.

Of course it is, but when people and territory are threatened, confrontation is inevitable. Unfortunately, today there's a more serious type of war going on; the ecocnomic crisis and the more we stray away from nature, the more aggressive we'll be and more exposed to harm on more ways than one.

Well said. I am optimistic and realistic about the fact that it's possible but not likely. A large number of issues must be resolved before universal peace can happen.

I am optimistic enough to believe that humankind will eventually evolve to a state where we all live in relative peace with one another.  By relative peace I mean that the recourse to violence on a national scale will come to an end.  I'm not saying it's going to happen in this century, but I expect by the end of the next one it will.

The shift towards more real community belongingness among all people will gradually take hold as the world 'shinks' in size psychologically.   The 'them and  us' will give way to 'we' who reside on planet earth.  Of course,by that time we might have a few colonies living on such places as the Moon or in huge artificial satellites which orbit the various planets of our solar system.   Those pioneers might not like to be regarded as 'earthlings' if they happen to be second or third generation Moon people.

The pessimists say we'll never have world peace.  Such do not only see their glass as half empty but worry about the chlorine in the water.  Optimists such as myself take a different view.  Our 'cup not only runneth over it has beer suds atop of it.   Of course we humans will get beyond war and deliberate killing and the worse types of crime.   It is just a matter of time.

I like to think that maybe, some time in the distant future, government attitudes across the globe may have matured to such an extent that all disputes could be solved via diplomacy and civilized debate. Reason being, just 100 years ago war was seen as something glorious and exciting. Like if you could make an empire, it made your country great. Whereas nowadays, even small conflicts are viewed as something which we don't really want. Plus, the amount of conflict going on at the moment is going to make people even more war weary than they've been in the past. Further reducing the amount of wars and battles occurring throughout the world. Plus the tyrants are starting to disappear too.

So I think that in about 150, 200 years, we might not have any wars going on at all.
