Why do people so often allow others to decide their opinions for them?

Hard to believe; but, people are basically a herd animal.  People like to be in the majority because they think that makes them right or in the right.  Most people are also very concerned with what others think of them and mimicking their views is one way of gaining acceptance.

You're so right. It's called the "fallacy of greater numbers" or something isn't it? It does not follow that because a greater number of people believe a thing, that it is necessarilly true! Unfortunately this raises questions about democracy...
