That is a very difficult question. The world certainly has too many people and the rate of increase NEEDS to slow, however, a policy such as the Chinese have introduced would not work in many other countries in the world. By having a policy like this, there are many other considerations, such as birth control, forced abortion, what happens if a child dies, gender preferences and so many other questions. Different countries approach these questions in different ways. There are also the questions of the future to take into consideration. In the UK, the population is getting "older", with fewer young people to support the older generations, who are living longer. In China, with one child born for every 2 parents, who will support the parents in their old age? Will there be sufficient labour for meeting industrial needs?
