What do you think about a ninety year old getting the death sentence?
It would have to be a particularly heinous crime for me to say ok, let's inject grandma or grandpa there. And I would have to be sure they were of sound mind, as I can't see where a dementia patient or one suffering from Alzheimer's could have possibly been capable of making a sound judgment during their trial.
I agree with bethperry about making sure they are of sound mind.
Otherwise, age doesn't matter when it comes to a crime terrible enough to consider death as the punishment.
I don't believe the death penalty should discriminate based upon gender, race, religion, age, or sexual orientation.
If it is deemed a person is mentally competent to stand trial then they should be handed down the standard punishment for that crime according to their state law.
