What causes so many American Blacks to view their dark skinned compatriots in a less than positive,

    even highly negative fashion?

When I see people of different shades I think of personality , because skin is a covering of the flesh .like clothing is to the skin, people are born with no choice of their own in how your genetics will turn out. Black is beautiful
Even more so from inside out. If people have a problem with color it could be their is something wrong in their inner being of the heart.

Essentially there are two groups that mistreat in different ways.
    1. One group has a fear of them or sees them as mean/ugly and dangerous. Every black person has some dark skinned people in their family tree. And yet they find dark skinned (strangers) intimidating.
    2. The second group loves to make fun of their skin color with jokes.

It is also related to "class".  There are Blacks who view light-skinned Blacks as more classy or bougie while they view dark-skinned Blacks as gangster, ratchet, and ghetto.

So true! A dark  skinned black male is often seen as being a thug/gangster verses a light skinned green eyed black male would. The darker one is the "harder" or meaner they are perceived to be. Unfortunately there's racism within the black race.

YES, the lighter skinned Black is always seen as the more educated/affluent one while the darker skinned Black is always lower class.  Look at how Black movies usually portrays lighter skinned Blacks vs darker skinned Blacks, especially women.
