In your elementary, junior high, & high school, was the emphasis placed & your overall treatment by

teachers, principals, & other adult authoritative figures based upon socioeconomic/family status/prestige or just grade point average? In my elementary school, teachers, principals & other adult figures placed emphasis on socioeconomic background & grade point average. In my elementary school(1-8 grades), more affluent &/or smarter students were treated preferentially by teachers & principals while socioeconomically poorer students were treated very disparately. The latter type were punished more & harsher than their more affluent counterparts.

I do not know about affluent students getting better treatment. But, we smarter students received some preferential treatment as they liked us at all times. I remember, 4 of us, 2 girls and two boys competing for each half mark and the teachers and headmasters encouraging all four of us and treating us with more love than other students. I hope teachers always like smarter students more than others at any school.

Students who performed better academically and were more active in school activities were better known by teachers and administrators.

Those of us who were average, had a miserable home life and probably had a part time job did not get the same attention. I finished high school in 1969. I do not think that scenario has changed.
