    Should guns be made illegal?

How often don't you read about accidents happening at schools or homes where people are killed, by accident or purpose.
Would the world be a saver place if it was difficult to get hold of a gun. And if you owned one you could be charged.
If you think that owning a gun makes you saver, think again. If you are prepared to kill a burglar and live the rest of your life with the fact that you killed a men or woman who only wanted a t.v. -
Do you have a gun and do you use it ?
Should we live in a world where there are policemen in the schools.to protect our children from other children ?

How odd that rapists, muggers, home invaders, burglars, mass killers, terrorists, thugs, white-sheeted bigots, wife-beaters, gay bashers, gangbangers, social deviants and anti-Semites of all kinds agree with Peter that citizens should not own guns.

How odd that many countries where citizens don't own guns (e.g. Sweden, Japan, The Netherlands, Norway, Finland, Denmark) have really, really low crime rates. Yet they have all the violent movies and video games we have here in America.

      Mysterious!

Have you met any rapists, muggers, home invaders, burglars, mass killers, terrorists, thugs, white-sheeted bigots, wife-beaters, gay bashers, gangbangers, social deviants and anti-Semites of all kinds?
And did they tell you so personally ?

Zelkiiro, isn't it odd that the states in the U.S. with the fewest restrictions on gun ownership have the lowest murder and violent crime rapes of any in the nation? And those with the most have among the highest? Also, Sweden and Norway allow guns.

R K, I think you meant "crime rates"? Also, to your point, both Israel and Switzerland allow for widespread concealed carry and yet both have murder rates (1.8 and 0.6, respectively) far below the U.S. murder rate of 4.7.

LOL, woops! Yes, meant murder and crime *rates*.

If about 14% of the populations of Sweden, Japan, Norway, etc. were comprised by the descents of people who were treated, sold and traded like livestock, and victimized by harsh Jim Crow laws, their murder rates would be as high as the US's.

Peter, do you dispute my comment that these type of people all agree with you?

It's not mysterious at all, zel. First, when you compare direct crime to crime rates the US is somewhere in the middle. Second, if you factor out about 30 particular zip codes in large cities then the US crime rate compares favorably with any nation

Of course I dispute your comment jack, has there ever been a survey about this question among this particular group. Don't think so. It's populist talk. As well as your big if..if you factor out 30 zip codes...why not factor out all crime...!!!

Pete... it is good to have you on record that rapists, muggers, home invaders, burglars, mass killers, terrorists, thugs, white-sheeted bigots, wife-beaters, gay bashers, gangbangers, social deviants and anti-Semites  prefer armed victims :-)

Yes, plain and simple. I live the UK and this reason is the only thing stopping me from travelling to specific gun-approved states in America. People are too trustworthy sometimes, everyone has the potential to act on impulse or develop irrational feelings/decisions. It takes one idiot with a gun to kill, I don't think anyone needs reminding of the tragedies of what guns have done in the past. Guns are used in wars, not in neighbourhoods, the former and latter of which I will always disagree with.

"If you are prepared to kill a burglar and live the rest of your life with the fact that you killed a men or woman..."

As unfortunate as it is to ever be in a situation where you have to kill anyone, I'd much rather live with the knowledge that I killed someone while defending my family and my home than to live with the guilt of losing anyone I love or care about because I was unable to protect them.

I have a hard time believe anyone in favor of making guns illegal lives anywhere out in the country, or in a dense inner city where police response times are very long. Let me ask you: what would you do if armed men were trying to break into your home, and help wasn't going to come for 10 minutes? Hmm? You planning on standing there like a helpless idiot and watching your family get slaughtered?

You might be thinking, "Oh! But if guns were illegal, armed people couldn't break into your home in the first place!" But you're missing one important thing: criminals are criminals because they *don't* follow laws.

Banning guns won't keep guns out of the hands of "bad guys". After all, cocaine, meth, steroids, heroin, LSD, and bath salts are all illegal, but that hasn't stopped anyone who wants them from finding ways to get their hands on them.

All banning guns is going to do is create an illegal market for guns. And you can be sure that there will be zero regulation and zero concerns about a buyer's sanity in the gun aisle of the black market.

Amen, my father had no qualms about protecting his family and shot a burglar. I may not have lived to tell the story if he hadn't!
