Do you think it's the governments right/obligation to make us believe and think a particular way?

Is brainwashing by the U.S. government a good thing?
Changing our attitudes by laws and misinformation, the government does try and change the way we believe and think.
    Is this the governments duty?

It is not the government's right or obligation but it is definitely their mission.  Always has been.  Propaganda goes waaay back.

It always seems to be their mission, doesn't it?
I've yet to read about a country that doesn't manipulate the news and information to sway their citizens.
      Great answer!

      Indeed it is.
What amazes me is that most people don't realize it.
They still have this silly notion that "government is good" and "the government can fix that".
They do not read history, that's for sure!

No. Definitely no. The government is their to act as the parens patriae but we do have individual responsibility including raising our kids the way they should be so they become good citizens.

Had to look that up "parens partriae" - protect the citizens.
I think the government has gone way past "protecting" and is now more like big brother telling us what is good and how to think.
      Just my thoughts.
      I appreciate your answer.
      Cheers
