    Well did you have the item tucked into your clothing or in a bag when you left? Obviously they must have thought you were taking it out of the shop which is why they stopped you.

    They monitor you going in and out. If you walk in with something and not out with it, and it isn't in the room, then it is reasonable to assume it is on your person.
