1) Created by Egyptians to study outer space, communicate with "them" or just for storing their mummies.
2) Made by aliens. Its their camp or some kind of port they made so they can come here very fast, or simply a communication device to another planet such like our internet "station".

It's pretty obvious they were used as burial chambers for royalty.
The Egyptians had very grand and elaborate temples for all their pursuits of knowledge and spirituality, so I doubt the pyramids served this purpose.
