Will President Obama nominate a minority for the Supreme Court?

With the death of Antonin Saclia, Supreme Court justice, President Obama can potentially sway the high courts leaning direction, upsetting the current balanced court.  It appears to be a huge policital battle in the making.

Its not a balanced court. It leans right. 5-4. It gave us Citizens United and took away voting rights....balanced? The reason it leans conservative is because Republican presidents nominated them. If you think half of America liked it, think again. If you don't like Obama nominating, too bad. But don't fret, if we've learned anything these last 7 years, it's that the Republicans never let Obama do anything, ever. I'm guessing they will do everything possible to keep him from fulfilling his sworn duty, as all we have seen from them is governing for partisan gain. If he is allowed to pick, I and half of America will be happy with it. If the Rs obstruct, as is their way, what  else is new? They're only happy when we all bow to their feet. No womens rights, minority rights, gay rights, and favoring big biz. We ALL know the deal.

It will be difficult if not impossible to find someone with the honesty and integrity demonstrated by Justice Scalia.  There are just not many out there like this wonderful human being.  He will be missed by many.

Yes, I would assume Obama will try to replace him with someone who thinks and acts much the same as himself.  But this would be human nature to do this and most any President would do the same.

Those who serve on the Supreme Court are human beings, all with their own little quirks and likes and dislikes.  It would probably be more fair to have computers making the decisions these humans are asked to make.  Their main job is to defend the Constitution, not make new laws as has been seen lately.

I disagree with your suggestion that a computer will make the best decision. Justice Scalia is a prime example of a true Constitutionalist. A computer is no match for the human intellect.  I want the Supreme justices to be human...

Jack Lee - I was kidding about the computers doing this very difficult job.

Most likely he will nominate a Liberal who thinks like him, and is on board with his agenda.  Then all hell will break loose.  Brace yourself.

That would be fantastic, actually. And about time. And someone of different religious background would be nice, too. SOOO sick of Judeo Christian so called values. All it brings is death and destruction. Want Peace. Maturity. Wisdom.

I was joking... I am Asian American, I an a Catholic and I am Conservative and I am a Constitutionalist. More than that, I am a proud American and I believe in MLK's "judging people by the content of their character, not the color of their skin"...

Well I'm a white Slav and northern European. I would like to see more than white, and/or Judeo Christian making these decisions. An atheist would be fantastic, too. It's embarrassing to me we are stuck in antiquity of mind. Backwards as ME in ways.

The only criteria for a justice is a person who understand our Constitution. Our country is unique because of our Constitution. Justice Scalia was a giant in that respect and liked by people of all persuations. He was approved 98-0 unanimously.

That is so stupid, LMC.  You want someone on there just for their ethnicity?  The best candidate needs to be there, regardless of color.

You may think its constitutional that voting should be for white Repubs only, and women can't have abortions, I don't. Booo on Scalia. RIP, but Boooo
