What are the ways that strict gender dichotomies/paradigms will become extinct within the next
next 50-70 years while gender fluidity will increase, even becoming mainstream in American culture & society?
As white Western Imperialism continues to be challenged by many groups of people, the forced gender binary will also be challenged and probably thrown out. Many cultures across the world have recognized more than two accepted gender expressions and today, very few of those cultures remain because they were wiped out by Imperialism/Colonialism and their views on gender were demonized and erased.
Adding to that the now debunked-by-science concepts of biological sex and essentialism - which didn't account for and basically ignored the variance of chromosome combinations (with XX and XY being only part of a wide range) and very real existence of intersex and transgender people.
I think a lot of people feel that the notions of male/man and female/woman are going to be erased completely and that's simply not the case. The only thing that more progressive people and those who are gender variant want is to simply have THEIR gender identities and expressions regarded as just as valid as those two that are currently accepted.
