The first thing that came to my mind in answering your question is "the absence of unnecessary worries." Being organized and reducing stress, while exercising, getting needed rest, and practicing moderation in all things are good, routine keys to happiness that includes time for yourself to meditate, pray, and just plain work on being an authentic you.
For me "happiness" is being "ignorantly elated" usually because of obtaining some thing their physical senses are pleased with, "sadness" is the reverse.
I find "joy" to be "being content with whatever one encounters." I am able to be content with things, such as pain, my physical senses causes my mind to disapprove of and am not excessively elated the pleasant sense perceptions.
