What is the reason behind the threats of North Korea to America?
The North Korean regime relies on a sense of siege to justify its tight control over the country and its people. The United States kept it from taking over South Korea, so the United States is the big bad guy for North Koreans.
North Korea also uses its weapons program and threats to South Korea as extortion, demanding money, aid and concessions to pause its development. But once you pay a bribe, the demands increase - so they keep on developing weapons and brandishing them, to get food aid during crises and concessions at other times. North Korea has lets its people literally starve while it continued to build rockets. Its leaders are cruel. Power matters more to them.
North Korea also sees its reputation as wildly unpredictable and the threat of major war as defense; no one wants to try to invade and overthrow them if they could lob a couple nukes at Japan, China and South Korea and have made others afraid they WOULD do it.
