Well the world didn’t end. President Trump is leading America into diplomatic territory not seen in decades. Maybe we’ll finally see an end to the Korean War. Dennis Rodman was there too sporting a MAGA hat and taking shots at Obama. Thoughts?
Decades? No president in our history has ever met with a leader of N Korea.
Optimistic caution , the word of the day , but since we have a real business negotiator in the white house we can at least HAVE faith in that politics is "out the door" , political correctness is way, way ,way out the door and that real progress might be made.
Thoughts? Yes, he promised to end the war games to both Russia and China's delight without consulting our military leaders. What did Kim promise?
Yeaaa.......... , already on the obstruction A list Randy ? Denuking North Korea , that's what . And Trump will get it too even at the manipulation of that reality by your fake media .
How's that resistance working out ?
Does a promise need to be made in order to extend a good faith gesture? I was disheartened when I heard the war games hadn't been cancelled earlier. Trump did the right thing.
So you, China, and Putin are pleased by the promise? Okay! We got nothing from Kim other than promises NK leaders have broken in the past. Good deal!
I don't know what motivates Russia or China. If our foreign policy were predicated on ensuring we piss them off, whenever possible, then I suppose being decent was a miss step be Trump.
The words "decent" and "Trump" are not often seen in the same sentence.
Well, some of us have the ability to give credit where it is due.
Why does the COMMANDER IN CHIEF need to get permission from the military to make a decision Randy?
Simple Ralph, these war exercises take years to set up and cannot be rescheduled on a whim by the POTUS. The very logistics for such an exercise make it impossible to simply set a new date. Of course, the moron in office has no clue about such.
LOL. Those war games are a yearly exercise. Trust me. I was stationed there. Rescheduling is not a problem.
The military leaders disagree with you, but I suppose YOU and Spanky know better than they. I suppose you helped plan the exercises?
Honestly? I'd expect they'd say nothing else. Does that make it true? We'd probably disagree on that. Yearly games may have specific objectives. Maybe those objectives would be difficult by cancellation or postponement. But, the games, themselves, could easily be rescheduled.
I'm not a big fan of the industrial military complex. I'm a fan of peace. Any steps in the pursuit of peace Trump war games. I can think of several valid reasons to postpone, or cancel the games. I can think of no reason better than those to pursue them.
Edit. Oh yeah. I did help coordinate the games. Minor role, of course. But role enough to understand the logistics involved.
What rank did you hold giving you inside info into the logistics required to postpone or reschedule the games, L2L? Getting naval warships and other military forces in the same area at the same time seems to be a very difficult logistical problem. and rescheduling would be even tougher to arrange.
What rank did you hold, giving you such confidence in the fact that a war game can't be rescheduled?
Canceling the war games is not a precedent. It has been done before, by both Democrat and Republican presidents. I don't remember anyone complaining.
Way to avoid answering, L2L. The reason I hold my opinion is because the generals have been saying the same thing. South Korea had no clue Spanky was going to cancel the games. Only Mattis claimed he had a clue about him doing this. King Spanky decrees....
I'll assume you were upper echelon to have such knowledge of the war games....
The fact that I said minor role precludes the possibility of stars on my shoulders.
Let's just leave it at you vote war and I vote peace. We disagree. It happens.
I didn't say I voted for war, L2L. Nice try though...
Well, let's see. You claim (without providing evidence) that postponing the games is bad. You claim (without providing evidence) that Russia and China are delighted about the cancellation. This implies that, somehow, negotiations with NK is detrimental to the US and playing into their hands.
Sounds alarmist. Sounds as if military hostilities are, in your mind, preferable to peace. That NK threats of nuclear attack are preferable to our leaders sitting down with theirs.
Postponing the games doesn't allow our military and that of South Korea to practice defense maneuvers together for a coordinated defense strategy. If you think this good, then well, we disagree. Why wouldn't Putin be happy about Spanky trying to get Russia back in the G7, and why wouldn't he also be delighted about Spanky pissing off our allies?
Hmm. Games played every year (with the exception of a few) for a very long time. Postponing one will not affect our readiness by any great measure.
As to the other comment. Are you implying that working toward peace is pissing off our allies? Or that saying Russia needs to be re-added to the G7 is somehow tied to the Singapore meeting?
If you wern't complaining about this, it would be something else - the man made history last night and all you can do is poke holes in this accomplishment - he could have cured cancer, saved the whales, and built a spaceship that could travel the speed of light and you'd find something to gripe about. Triggered much?
I hope Trump's novel methods yield results. Previous presidents chose not to meet without certain conditions. Trump chose differently. Maybe it will work. We'll see.
It's disconcerting to see him flattering Kim Jong Un while starting fights with our allies.
Time will tell whether or not he knows what he's doing.
"Time will tell whether or not he knows what he's doing."
He was taken to task for "rocket man", too. And for tough talk. For nearly every word that has left his mouth concerning NK.
And for the first time in history NK is meeting with a president for discussions. Yes time will tell, but until NK becomes a true, freedom loving democracy of the people I'll take the intermediate responses as a very good sign and give credit where credit is due.
(But "novel"? Think back to the declaration of Independence, where we told Britain to bug off - that we weren't going to take the nonsense any longer. Think of JFK and the cuban crisis. There is nothing novel in speaking truth, in speaking a language that is understood by the listener or in speaking from a position of power. We're out of practice with our fake Politic-speak, but there isn't much novelty in doing it.)
No surprise from the most dangerous, boring and predictable mentally unstable Mr. Trump who is executing Vladimir Putin's Russian agenda to perfection: The generic outcome of this big waste of time was expected:
"China Gets Everything It Wanted From Trump's Meeting With Kim"
"Score one for China, America’s rival. America’s friends, Japan and South Korea, didn’t do so well."
"The biggest winner from President Donald Trump’s summit with North Korean leader Kim Jong Un -- aside from Kim himself -- was unquestionably the government of President Xi Jinping, which had been advocating the very process that Trump has now embarked upon."

Damn the dream of peace. It's so contrary to left wing ideals.
Not quite Live to Learn, the left wing is damning the infiltration by Vladimir Putin into the soft and feeble mind of their poodle Donald Trump and his Russian controlled republican congress-persons:
Time will tell if you are right. Personally, I think you are sadly misled, but if proven you aren't simply indoctrinated by those who manipulate the weak minded I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong.
I'll assume you once were a liberal to have such inside knowledge, Mike. Otherwise you cannot know what those from the left actually think. You're simply opining as usual would be my bet...
It should be well noted that the left HAS fought at every Trump turn in the road , Obstruction to each idea , resistance at every meeting , if Trump opens his mouth , the entire left goes into a ranting like ADHD school children , Fact - A bad first term of a presidency means no re-election , ex. Jimmy Carter , George H.W. Bush ,look at the success' of Trump's very first year ; nothing but success .
There is NO better party in the entire world better suited to become more marginalized than the American left !
Get ready for the landslide .
Obama's major contribution to foreign diplomacy : This is how he would have treated North Korea .

Monday, Jan. 20, 2025 will be an amazing, historic inaugural of the new president.Only the 1789 inauguration of President George Washington and the deeply threatened first inaugural of President Abraham Lincoln in 1861 will remain more significant in historic terms. However, it will rival the 1933...

I'm struggling to keep up with all this. Is Trump really planning to attack North Korea if they do another nuclear test? Is it seriously being considered as a possibility? Or is it just sabre rattling? And is this type of brinksmanship the best approach to foreign policy?

Will the small step by Kim be a giant leap for the two Koreas? Does Trump deserve any credit for the same?Ofcourse its all too early and the skeptics need much more than just photo-ops. Nonetheless, this is historic moment as Kim walked across the demarcation line at the Demilitarized Zone (DMZ). A...

Here is a link to an NBC/Wall Street Journal poll. It appears President Trump's approval rating actually increased after the summit with Putin. I wonder why? I think liberals are out of touch with the majority of American citizens. They are probably more in touch with...

It appears that we are at another crucial point in history. In the 1980s, Reagan faced a similar threat in Soviet Union. He negotiated and ended the cold war and took down the Soviet empire without firing a shot. In 2017, it appears President Trump has a similar challenge. If he can negotiate an...
