Should We Care About Use of the N-Word Anymore?

   Everyone is making a big deal about whether President Trump used the N-word sometime in his past.
   
   Who can say they haven't used that word before? I doubt there's anyone in the country who can honestly say that. Can you? It's a word whose meaning has changed a lot in the past fifty years and has been brought into popular culture by the very people who claim that it's offensive.
   
   If you listen to rap music, you hear the word all the time and rap is part of our popular culture. So if the N-word is used in rap all the time, isn't it okay to use? This whole controversy is just another bit of fake news.

      The fact that you ask this question is disturbing. Of course we should worry about it. I don't care how many rap lyrics include it,or black comedians use it. It does not have the same meaning as when someone of another race does. I don't think people should lose their jobs for being insensitive, if that is its use. I think it should be exposed so that person can have the chance to grow and mature.
      
      I have never, in my life, used that word. It degrades another human being. I will say I have heard it. Especially when someone is mad and attempting to convey their anger in a hurtful way. Does that make them racist? I don't think so. It makes them mean in the moment.
      
      There is one incredibly disgusting term (in my mind for a female). When my husband and I were in the grips of an extremely difficult time and we fought. He used it. To hurt me. Although I knew it was my disgust for the word which brought it forward, he knew how that would make me react, it still hurt to be called it. Which was his mission in that moment. To hurt my feelings. That didn't mean he hated me, or hated women, or anything. He was acting badly, in the moment.
      
      I see that word as being used for that purpose, in many circumstances I've seen or heard.
      
      However, to deny it is a disgusting word is to deny we can all, at times, do disgusting acts. They do not necessarily define us.

   At one time blacks thought it was cool to use the N- word, today it is not so cool.
