Is it really about date rape? Should this song be banned?

I just read the lyrics. So, no. By consent standards it doesn't qualify as rape of any kind. But, in the current climate? What doesn't qualify a 'valid' claim of rape?

Lyrics clearly show female clearly had a choice. So, if she wanted to stay and have "one more drink" that is her business. Not fair to ban a song that many women enjoy at Christmas time. I guess we don't count anymore?  We that know how to conduct ourselves on a date, and are able to make our own decisions on staying or leaving or having one more drink.

Not at all.  People are becoming a tad sensitive & hyperbolic these days.

It isn't banned.  Some radio stations are choosing to play it and others are not. That's their choice and not imposed on them by anyone else.  Just as listeners can choose what stations they tune into.  I have heard it several times this week.

I don't think it should be banned, just like I don't think books that were written 200 years ago and are offensive by today's standards should be banned.  It's culture.  We, as individuals, can choose to partake of it or not.  Our choice.

One radio station decided to stop playing it, shit when viral, they backed down.  Hardly a ban.

I never said there was a ban.

    Silliness.

I just read an article saying some radio stations are starting to play it again because the decision to pull it was met with such poor reception. Which I think is the right call.

Truthfully I think if you find offense in a Christmas carol you need to perhaps lighten up a little. Though my grandma did refuse to listen to “Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer”....

If we're gonna get rid of "Baby It's Cold Outside," can we also get rid of these?

    "The Christmas Shoes"
"Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer"
    "Santa Baby"

...not because they're offensive, but because they suck!

But seriously folks... the alleged "controversy" over this song is manufactured social-media nonsense. I was in a grocery store this past weekend when "Baby It's Cold Outside" played over the store speakers. Everyone looked up and laughed, like "Oh, nooooo! It's THAT song!" in mock horror. No one was "triggered."

Santa baby is gross. Gold digger with a grandpa fetish. I don't want it banned, I just change the channel when it comes on.

        Depends on who's singing it.

        Eartha Kitt - yes
        Madonna - not really
        Taylor Swift - nope!

Eartha Kitt's version of course.  She is the only one who can sing Santa Baby!

Was it really a bad call by the radio station?  Think of how much attention the radio station has gotten from all over the world because of this.  Most people would have never heard of it.  Does the radio station believe there is no such thing as bad press?

Remember when Lady Gaga and Tony Bennett sang "Baby It's Cold Outside" in a Christmas commercial for Barnes & Noble, and everyone loved it?

Sigh. This isn’t “liberals”. This was a radio station.

And as a liberal, I can’t stand Lady Gaga.

Of course it should be banned. All things in this world which melt snowflakes should be banned. It should be illegal to have thoughts which aren't PC. Why do we only punish people for saying things when they've got such guilty looks on their stupid faces? Death sentences for thought crimes - it's the future in progressive utopia.

It's funny but the new age feminism resembles old time patriarchy. Women aren't responsible for actions or decisions, it's all on the guy.

New age feminism, in my judgment, basically insists women must be viewed as having diminished capacity.

Are y'all arguing with imaginary scary liberals in your head? Because I haven't seen a single liberal.support banning this song.  In fact, not a single liberal here has criticized this song.  In fact, this song hasn't even been banned anywhere.

It must be fun arguing with the imaginary boogeymen in your heads.

If I ran a radio station, I'd play the song continuously for 24 hours one straight. Maybe that's one reason I don't own a radio station. I may alternate versions though.
