The United States of America was fine before the inundation of social programs initiated by the Great Society in the 1960s. As a result of such program, we Americans have a massive welfare system & many more useless social programs which are depleting America economically. The middle class, of course, are paying the brunt of the taxes. Another consequence of these social welfare programs is that people have become irresponsible, unaccountable, & entitled. Some aren't even satisfied w/the current scope of useless welfare & social programs, they want to go even further-they believe that healthcare, housing, & even college tuition should be either very low cost or even free! Your thoughts? Was America MUCH BETTER when she was a MASSIVE SOCIAL/WELFARE state?
Hello, gmwilliams, the many social welfare programs are good to some extends. But I am also sure many have abuse them. These are those who do not like to do anything for themselves. Who said think not what America will do for you, but think what you can do for America? John F. Kennedy. Can it ba said that half of the population thinks only what the government will do for them? You see all fingers are not equal. So, all cannot be middle class or rich at the same time. In all nations, the poor always exists.
I am not an American but Nigeria. If I said I has no imput for the question, some will demand a small answer from me. That is given as above. Thank you.

When there was very little or no welfare programs in America, people learned to be self-sufficient. They believed that if they wanted better, they worked & sacrificed. In essence, they depended upon themselves. They didn't expect handouts from the government. Then in the...
