Did Democrats Invent the Coronavirus to Hurt Trump?

   So I was listening to a radio station that leans right. Some of the programming is actually pretty good and I don't mind listening to their point of view. I'm not a regular listener, but sometimes tune in when I'm driving.
   
   So today, they floated this idea:
   
   Did Democrats intentionally create the coronavirus to hurt Donald Trump?
   
   Now, to the host's credit, she dismissed the notion as ridiculous, saying she believed that China was either trying to come up with a vaccine or they were trying to weaponize it, though she didn't have any proof of either.
   
   However, it's the very fact she repeated such a claim that's exactly the problem. It gets repeated. And people start to believe it's true.
   
   Do you believe it's true? Is it possible?

      But, I am laughing with you, not at you. I think there really are folks that will believe that idea.
      
      You have to admit, there are some real nutcases and gullible idiots that shouldn't be allowed out of the house, among us.
      
      Tin-foil hats aren't just for UFO enthusiasts. But, as a silver lining, I have been looking for an opportunity to introduce a TED video that I really liked.

               I think what Don Jr. Is saying makes sense. If you want Trump to fail then it can look like you want the Coronavirus to succeed. I think it is an unfortunate reframing of the situation.
               
               Personally, I prefer we fund the appropriate agencies to begin with and not blame our political opponents for our own short-sightedness.

      I find the claim to be highly unlikely, Crank. It's interesting to hear from my Chinese friends that the big conspiracy there is that the coronavirus was purposely introduced into Wuhan by the U.S. Government as an act of bio-warfare.
      
      On a less conspiratorial note, there is danger that coronavirus fears could be exploited and used to push through government surveillance on U.S. citizens (anyone concerned about communist style authoritarianism should be much more worried about this than something like Americans getting healthcare that could combat the virus):

      Responding to pandemics is precisely why we have government because no private entity could possibly respond. Nice try. Furthermore, we know absolutely that Trump has been cutting all government healthcare related functions and wants no part of such things.
      
      Saying government shouldn't do stuff like this is like saying it should stay out of the hurricane and flood response business too. In other words: JUST LET PEOPLE DIE.

         The federal government should absolutely stay out of flood and hurricane situations and let local governments take care of their own people. The only thing that ever happens is they throw money at the situation and it gets stolen or wasted.
