It feels like my opinions doesn't matter anymore in resent times. When there is one-sided bullies.
In my view, the woke generation is a very small minority of people. Although they are having their 15 minutes with the media, I think most people see pasted their "wokeness"., and hope they become sleepy, and move on to the next fad with another cute label.
My daughter and her boyfriend are into woke movement. Both successful in the technology religion. Because my intuitive (extreme logic) prediction ( even 10 years ago on hubpages). She finally sees all of my world events unfold for the last ten years.
Being a Realist is more powerful for your own life. Some Woke will manifest, yet alot of it will be a waste of time, like politics
I agree that realism serves one better than what I call would call nonsense.
I watched the first 20 minutes of the video, and I wish I had time to watch the whole two hours. This is of particular interest to me because I've been in communications since I was 19 years old and I have two degrees in the communications field. Of course any communications major is trained in U.S. First Amendment rights and free speech. We are also trained that any speech that endangers another person's life or reputation or the national security is not protected under the First amendment. The problem I see here is a matter of what qualifies as speech that is not protected.
Some speech is well defined, but gray areas such as community standards come under fire at times. And many times, probably most times, that fire is unjust in my opinion. I was unfamiliar with the WOKE movement and probably am not educated enough in that movement to express an opinion on free speech and the WOKE movement as you lay it out. Frankly, I'm not sure I even want to be. It sounds like more BS that is trying to erode our rights to free speech to me.
As I mentioned, I found the first 20 minutes of the video fascinating because I had no idea that in the U.K. people could be hassled by the police for expressing their opinion out loud. I spent a couple of weeks in the Soviet Union in 1990, so I am familiar with keeping one's mouth shut when in the vicinity of people who might be KGB, but I had no idea that freedom-loving Brits were as militant. Our own U.S. laws are based on English common law, so that was a shock.
It makes me wonder where our ancestors got the idea of the First Amendment. Our democratic republic was based on the government of the Iroquois nation, not any European nation, which were monarchies during that period, so I shouldn't be surprised.
So my question is why are we putting up with this erosion of free speech in our own country? Is this hatred thing that keeps popping up the reason. Why can't we just ignore peoples' hate speech? Why do some people allow themselves to be goaded into acting on it? Why are we allowing the speech and actions of a minority of people to tempt the government into taking away our First Amendment rights? I would ask those questions to persons who use speech to stir up insurrection.
On another note, why are some people so darn sensitive? If I do something outlandish in the opinions of others, I can expect some uncomplimentary feedback. If you've got the guts to do something out of the ordinary, then have the guts to to accept the flack.
Before political correctness. We use to call it, turning the TV channels if you don't like what is on. Same with blocking something online if they speak too much bs or they are trying to bully you. I've not ever banned anyone.
Woke is new to me too. It's really interesting as my daughter and I drive to lane swimming for an half hour and listen to many woke like tapes. Although don't think their lives are many more together than my own. Actually the best speaker was a woman who was a former Meth gueen that was given a series of instruction by Aliens on how we should all live in 8th dimension. My daughter has gotten a $50' 000 contract to train people by a video game about how to live into 8th dimension. The 8th dimension is oneness with all creation. Any beings .
