Justice for Children: If Not Now, When?

How about the injustice of school children who are installed by parents and society into classrooms with no regard for the development of their ability to guide their own wills and tune into their true interests? For a major portion of their days and weeks, for thirteen years, they are denied childhood liberty during a period when liberty is vital for the development of their psyches/minds. Yet, they are expected to sit in desks, be quiet, stay in one place, learn what they are expected to learn, pass tests they are required to take whether ready or not, and get good grades in subjects they are expected to learn whether they are interested in them or not ...
and they are not even being paid.
    Talk about injustice.
What if we cared about justice for children?
Why do adults avoid addressing this looming issue:
    The issue of human development.

I've discussed this issue at length with many different people, and each time I've discussed it someone learns that there are independent study accommodations available from many different schools. Independent study is an amazing way to go through school, and it resulted in me graduating a year before my equal peers in regular school. Had I entered into independent study earlier, completing credits at the rate I was doing so, I would've graduated high school in one year as opposed to the three I spent, and everyone's four.

Basically, independent study in a nutshell: Show up to school a minimum of once per week, pick up packets and meet with teachers for an hour or two (longer if you need help), then leave and return within seven days with completed packets. Each packet is a completed credit, and you can complete credits as fast as you so choose.

I spent 99% of what others were spending in school out on the beach surfing, skating, hanging with cute older women, and learning real-life skills from people I never would've met without independent study. If more people knew that only a select few kids get to do this just for being "advanced" or "special" then I bet more parents would fight for these independent study programs in their school districts.

School is an abusive joke made at the expense of children; give them their childhood, their freedom, I absolutely agree with you, Kathryn.

I think there is a solution: Let us all move to Finland!

I'd be down for investing my money/taxes in shipping immigrants to Finland.

The direct consequences of illegal immigration are creating a sociopolitical hell here in SoCal ghettos, it's even starting to cause a lot of folks to flee east.

We can create environments of learning for bodies of children. These environments will allow for research, exploration  and self-guided learning. Dr. Maria Montessori, who was ahead of her time, (as was Christopher Columbus,) lights the way.

Another Brick in the Wall Lyrics - Part 2 (Waters) 3:56

    We don't need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
    Teachers leave them kids alone

Hey! Teachers! Leave them kids alone!
All in all it's just another brick in the wall.
All in all you're just another brick in the wall.

    We don't need no education
We dont need no thought control
No dark sarcasm in the classroom
    Teachers leave them kids alone

"The country has set an example for its excellence by proving healthy balance between school life and other activities is possible. It can be said that William Doyle was right when she quoted, “I have seen the school of tomorrow. It is here today, in Finland."

Perhaps all the educators must learn from Finns that independence, exploration, plays and creation inspires children to grow into innovators and we must not block them in our rigid academies rather facilitate them by giving opportunities to be a critical and creative thinkers."
