Conservatism is the New Counter-Culture

      I read as much of the yada yada that I could stomach. This is old hat. When I went to college in the 1960s, it was the conservatives who were beaten by the liberals. Conservatives firmly believed that the world ran in cycles, possibly to give themselves hope. (I can't argue with that.) They believed that the country would cycle back conservative before the end of the 20th Century. It did. Remember a guy named Ronald Reagan?
      I think there is something to their belief that politics run in cycles, or at least I did until the advent of the extremists who are actually being listened to:  Tea Party, Trumpers, liberal extremists, Social Democrats, etc. Now that these people are occupying the ends of both poles and refusing to compromise, I don't know what to believe anymore. Are there not enough level heads in both parties to shout these extremists down? Are we doomed to listen to them fight forever? If extremism is going to ruin our country, I think both ends of the spectrum must share the blame.

    I didn’t read the article but I was thinking something similar recently. Every new generation just has to irritate their parents and if we go way far left a new generation will come along and buck  the system with conservative values. I hope I live to laugh at those times.

      I can agree with some conservatism and with some liberalism. I can't agree with the extremists of either party.
